I was purusing the "currently listening" thread and I noticed that a lot of people listen to a lot of new music with a pretty high frequency which seems like it could get pretty expensive pretty quick.
So what medium do you use to get new music? CD's? Vinyl? MP3's? Filesharing? Radio of some sort?
I'm old fashion; I buy CD's usually, and vinyl for older stuff. But it can get expensive :(

filesharing, for newer stuff, if I love it I buy the LP if possible, CD if that's all there is.
I also buy tons of old vinyl on a pretty regular basis.

mix of P2P and CD for me. if i love it on MP3, i'll almost always upgrade to CD (tho sometimes not till i find it used, esp. for the pricey imports). i'll avoid the MP3's for particularly anticipated records, to try to get back that feeling of really looking fwd to release dates. (plus, i'm perpetually behind and there's always other new stuff to keep me busy until then.)
i also will buy random CD's w/o the MP3 preview. usually it's something used that i've read about here or somewhere else on the interweb. going back to school has made my CD-buying almost wholly used these days. i'd cut it out entirely if i didn't dig finding something in a store so much more than finding it online.

edit: side effect of step 1 above is a f'in massive amount of CDR's.

Mainly Cd but if its something Im not sure about particuarly I will download it first. For example I downloaded Fever to Tell because I loved the first EP so much and I didnt think they could maintain such a high standard over a full album. I don't think they can unfortunately.
Also I don't download before something comes out if Im going to buy it. I didnt even download "The Greatest" from this site because I wanted to hear it alltogether when it came out. It was more than worth the wait.:)

the golden years, right :)
CD/vinyl almost exclusively (I'll download from a label's site or the occasional blog). I haven't done any file-sharing for years, which means I'm usually not up on the latest-and-greatest and I have a pile of CD's I bought cold that I don't like. And yes it gets expensive, especially since I never sell anything back.

I always buy my music. By music, I mean the actual CD, not the mp3 files from iTunes or something. I'll ask my friend to send me a copy of something every once in a while if it's something I want to check out but don't want to buy, or if I already have it on vinyl and want to be able to listen to it on my computer.

i always try to buy a real copy of an album if i get it from somebody on the internet or from an ftp and i like it.
if i really like the album art, i'll buy a new vinyl copy for the sleeve. for something older, i usually buy used vinyl if i can because it's far cheaper.
but i can't stand just having mp3's. i love album art, liner notes, and the tactile aspect of being able to hold music in my hand.
i'm addicted to buying cd's. i had 64 at the end of the summer and i have 102 now. i had about 20 at the end of 2004.
