View Full Version : fine film scores
I don't know if this is worth a brand new thread but seeing as I can only go two pages back here goes. The score for Ravenous is amazing. Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman really scared/impressed the poop out of me.
Other film score recommendations by people not named Ennio Morricone, Bernard Hermann or John Williams?

Who directs the film and does the music?
the director is roger avary, who has a lesser known hand in resevoir dogs and pulp fiction. not sure who does the soundtrack, but it's grating techno-trance-ish stuff, which works for the movie.

Cool. I remember hearing how he was mainly reposable for the script off Pulp Fiction and QT took the cridet. This isn't fair it shouldn't say Written and Directed by him alone. He also directed Rules of Attenction. I've yet to see but really like the book.

I don't typically listen to soundtrack albums but Howard Shore did some great soundtrack music (first that comes to mind is the original Planet of the Apes).
I've never listened to the soundtrack albums to The Exorcist or 2001: A Space Odyssey but each film features excellent contemporary classical music by the likes of Henze, Ligeti and Penderecki.

The Piano. I know it's Nyman, but fuck. What amazing music. I listen to that soundtrack at least once a month.
I always like the Midnight Cowboy Soundtrack. Who contributed...Did Nilsson do the title song ('Everybody's always talking at me...etc...)?

What's wrong with Nyman other than his over-reliance on four repeated notes? I loved the music in A Zed and Two Noughts.
