Oddly, I was just listening to a recently archived recording of him performing on WFMU. I'm not incredibly familiar w/ Swell Maps or Nikki's solo stuff, but what I did know was pretty original. I also understand that Spiral Stairs counted Swell Maps as one of his favorite bands and biggest influences.

RIP.

This is terrible news. The Swell Maps were fantastic, but I've been a huge fan of Nikki's solo work since Secretly Canadian did the reissue series a few years back. Some great material there, everybody should go and check out those records, especially if you only know his work with the Swell Maps.
