Man I cannot wait to see SM in Asheville. It will be the first time I have ever been in a room with a certifiable genius.

Yeah it is not listed on this site for some reason.

It is on Friday May 9th @ the Orange Peel
Tickets are like $12 plus a service fee.

www.theorangepeel.net

Their site says that he is coming and I already have tickets, so I hope this is not just a hoax.

I hope you come we need to have a huge crowd on hand so that Malkmus will always comeback to my beloved hometown.

i doubt you need that big of a crowd - he played asheville in support of the s/t album in addition to pavement playing there in 1995.

I saw Malkmus last year when he rolled through H-town, and I must say it was sort of a disappointment. I paid the 15 or 20 dollars to see him, and I was really psyched, though I didn't like his record, but I was like this is Malkmus, he can't suck live, but I think the new band has no personality in comparison to Pavement, and it looked like he was jus t going through the motions. At the end of Pavement, even if they weren't getting along, it was still entertaining, but I got to meet Nastonavich who ws mad cool, and that was worth the show fee, because when the show got flat, I talked to Nast, and he told me how Justine from Elastica was supposed to play that tour, but drama ensued which prevented that, but I think that would have been boss.
I may go, to see how this record translates live, but the last show really left me down, but then a lot of people don't like to play Houston, and they used that as an excuse to play sorry ass shows, but we will see...

SM was good last night, though I met him and made a fool of myself. The less said about that the better. He only played 3 songs off the S/t, which was a slight disappointment. On a side note, the Super Furry Animals played only slow songs last night cos it was their first all seater gig. Another disappointment.

Heh, I felt like a fool when I approached Malkmus after a show last tour. Basicially I wanted to at least thank him for all the music he's created and how its affected me. He kinda looked at me like some wacko and moved on to a much more attractive fan of female variety. I don't blame him...

Yeah, I got a strange look too. Probably cos I stood there for a minute trying to think of something to say.

Ladt, How was the rest of that festival?

Vashti Bunyan was a pleasant surprise, had some very good young musicians with er, and her set was short and sweet. The Groundhogs rocked, if anyone here knows the Groundhogs, they did an excellent version of Cherry Red. All in all it was a great festival, was very impressed with the Jicks as a band, maybe not so much with their selection of songs (no black books, apparently they never play it, no Jenny and The Ess Dog, however, they did play Church On White, my favourite SM song).

Did you end up checking out the Buff Medways or Bert Jansch?

I am.

I saw Pavement on their last show here, but passed on the last Malkmus show. But I like Pig Lib more than the s/t album, so............I'm coming to the show.

although i'm not taping this show, i was asked to find out about how tapers can get their equipment into irving plaza. these are people who've taped in the past with permission from stephen (or bob when he was tour manager).
irving plaza is particularly hostile in regard to taping, but will it be possible to tape either of these shows? if so, who should tapers speak to for permission?
thanks.
