The initial pressing of 'The Obliterati' CD will come with an extremely high-quality 4-song DVD of songs from one of the band's shows at Tsongas Arena opening for the Pixies. Shot multi-camera for HD-TV and featuring explosive performances of 2 of the classics and 2 of the new songs, you HAVE to own this.

Mixed into 2.0 stereo ('the largest stereo file I've ever seen' said our DVD authors) and 5.1 surrround by Bob Weston.

Is this CD/DVD version available only off the Matador site or will it be at other mass retailers like Amazon?

Just curious also if a pre-order is now available

This DVD will be available from everyone who normally sells Matador stuff. Although it is rather limited Amazon should have it as long as you are ordering early.
Speaking of ordering early, I am not sure what you meant by a pre-order being available. It is up on Amazon and here at the Matador store as well.

If I go through the stock of every CD retailer in my town looking for a copy of the initial pressing of The Obliterati, how will I know if I've found one? Is their any indication from the packaging that a DVD is included? I assume the tray must be different, but is it different in a way that can be determined from outside the shrink-wrap?

I need (well . . . really really really want) the DVD and was out of the country (and far from internet access) for the pre-order phase.

Cheers,
chimp

The sticker on the front of the CD+DVD package is different. If you read the writing that goes around the MOB logo, you will see that the version with the DVD says "includes bonus DVD".

If you want to order online, I was here (sonicboomrecords.com) earlier today (the Ballard store, which I think is where they fill their web orders), and they still had some. They also had the non-DVD version, so I'd call them before you order to make sure they send you the right one.
