It seems there's a lack of Cat Power guitar tabs and chords on the internet. I believe moonpix.com used to host some tabs, but the site doesn't appear to be running anymore. If enough people are in need of this type of site then I am more than happy to start hosting a place for her tabs. I currently run a small guitar tab site for indie bands and Cat Power would fit in perfectly. This is my own personal site and serves no other purpose other than to provide music fans with a means to learn guitar. So...

1. Would you find a Cat Power guitar tabs site helpful?

2. Do you have guitar tabs to contribute to this site?

Cheers!

I intend to learn playing guitar really soon and the first thing I want to be able to play are her songs, so this site would be very welcome for me. :)

I'd find it useful...

I can play "Nude As the News" which is one guitar part repeated but thats it. Generally though I want her stuff to remain a mystery to me so I probably wouldnt use it.

I can explain how to play that part but it would be like "put your first finger here and your second finger here and..." You would have to convert it to tab yourself.:)

Ok, this is good feedback. Sounds like I should get working on "The Greatest". Any tab submissions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hehe, i don't know if this is helpful, or superfluous information; but 911tabs.com and ultimate-guitar.com actually have loads of Cat Power tabs- i've used them both over the years to amuse myself for hour on end playing Cat Power songs badly ;-) Although, in fairness i don;t recall them having a great deal of very new CP tabs... I think your idea of a site devoted to Cat Power tabs is a nice idea- they're certainly more fun to learn guitar than playing old songs like 'she'll be coming round the mountain'!
[Also, if anyone happens to be a fan of Nina Nastasia, i was shocked to find that recently both those sites have a small selection of tabs for her songs, which was a delightful find!]

Yeah, I see about 15 tabs listed (mostly older). Honestly though, I'm not a huge fan of those sites. They can be useful for certain things, but I feel like indie bands with a loyal following (eg. Cat Power, The Decemberists, etc.) deserve a more personal treatment of their songs. I like tabs organized by album and I like seeing album art ;-) I'll update the thread when I've made progress. Thanks for the encouragement.

Cheers!

Ok, I added The Greatest to my tab site. 90% of the album is done, I just have a couple riffs to transcribe, but this is a good start. The songs are amazingly simple. It just goes to show what an amazing voice can do.

Guitar chords for The Greatest (Enjoy!):

I sorry to question you but are you sure about the "We know your house section" in "Lived In Bars" going C (1 bar) A (1 bar) D (2 bars). I figured this song out a while ago purley by accident and Id always thought it was A for two bars and then D for two bars.:)

I just wanted to add that I simply adore the simplicity of Chan's songs musically. I think its good that you are doing a site with her tabs on as well. Those big sites like ultimareguitar.com just seem so cold and unpersonal. Chan deserves the fan treatment.:)

Im interested in learning the piano parts to chan's songs, I could try find them out myself once I learn how to properly read and write sheet music.

An obvious thing to say really but Ill say it anyway, a shortcut to learning how to play a few of her songs is by watching the KCRW session on your realplayer. Ive learnt "Funny Things" from doing this. I love her style, simple chords and a lot of it is just picking the root note and then strumming the chord with your thumb. To me it seems quite childlike and I love it. She has a great ear for melody. :)

i've figured out the main riff to "He War".

but I will post a complete tab when i get finished if i get the time...

a lot of cat power's guitar work is simple, but random so it might be tough to accurately tab out.

btw, smashingpumpkins, juliana hatfield, and chan marshall rock.

For ultimate primitive and random guitar playing, check out John Lee Hooker. I think that would have to be the all time number one guitar tabbers nightmare.
