Jazz great Nina Simone, who was oft covered by Chan Marshall, died today. all you Cat power fans should do yourself a favor and check her music out as a form of remembrence.

I think Nina Simone was a dynamic talent, as a matter of fact, the first time I paid attention to Cat Power it was after hearing her cover of Wild is The Wind. When covering Nina you are either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid, because no one can bring more to her songs than her, but Chan did a great job. Her music was so vast, and from covers to originals, she is one of the few singers who consistently left chills down my spine. I haven't listened to her since her passing, because I'm not ready to accept she's gone...truly a loss. To all fans of truly soul shaking music, Simone is a must have. She will never, ever be replaced, and I can't think of anyone who even shines in the same light.
