View Full Version : Who wants to help me find a job

Job searching in Staten Island's newspaper is just depressing. Butcher, over night telephone operator? Other than that I've been browsing the NYC Craig's List pretty regularly sending e-mails for whatever I could possibly identify with (mostly art galleries).
I think the only response I've received about work was after I posted my resume on Craig's List and someone from Scientific American e-mailed me, but it looked like I was just going to be internet street-teaming.
Who has suggestions? Someone must.

you should change your location to "Arrrrr, Aye!"
craig's list has been the most fruitful for me in the past. i think the villagevoice.com's classified section is actually pretty good too. to reach for the stars, check idealist.org.
i always wanted to be a cabbie for a year but these days instead of splitting whatever you make with the company you have to rent out the cab everyday up front, which makes it tough to bullshit for very long with all the interesting old grizzled hacks or kick back with that second slice of pizza.

Hey, after five years of grad school, I'm jobless too! I've gotten several promising leads from monster.com and careerbuilder.com, but I suppose those are pretty obvious. I'm not sure where else to look for research oriented jobs, so I've been scouring the government webpages of some hip places I've always wanted to live in (Seattle, San Fran., Austin, NYC, Philly). Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't had to look for a job for several years now, so I don't know how good these are:
nwsource.com (marketplace.nwsource.com/jobs/?from=stn) (run by the Seattle Times)
jobdango.com (Seattle city buses are plastered with advertising for this site. It covers Oregon as well, and though I've never been to see for myself, I think most people will tell you that Portland is far cooler than Seattle.)

What is it you want to do? (To ask an easy question, heh.) Every industry/profession has better sites to look at than others.
Temping is also a good thing to do if you live in a city.

I think I'm going to just bite the bullet and street team for Greenpeace.
I just don't want to talk to people.

Thanks for that idealist.org link. I found a couple of promising leads there!

Any suggestions for jobs having to do with social research, particularly mental health related fields or other fields requiring data analysis/statistics?
