There's a rumour I've heard that 'I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass' is the last Yo La Tengo album for Matador, and that they are about to sign 7 year contract to big Interscope. Any truth in that?

7 year deal? Seems far-fetched.

because if there's one band that will bring in huge bucks from the kids for Interscope, it is Yo La Tengo

in a related story, Graeme Downes' album Hammers and Anvils celebrated it's seventh sale ever last week.

Now that's definitely a lie.

Someone must have been really gullible to start such tittle-tattle. So here's the truth. Yo La Tengo played a show at the Trocadero in Philadelphia on the June 15th as part of a two-night festival called "Indies Only," incuding such acts as The Stills, Matt Pond PA, and Band of Horses (ugh). So, as a joke they announced that they had just signed a 7-record deal with Interscope. HA! So there you go.
