Go to the Music Page (http://www.matadorrecords.com/music) to hear the MP3 of "Don't Have To Be So Sad"; go to the band page (http://www.matadorrecords.com/yo_la_tengo) to see the cover (click on the mini for a larger image).

I guess they've arrived - they finally made the cover of one of their own albums (unless you count them hanging out in the background of New Wave Hot Dogs).

Anyone have a track listing for the new CD? They have played some new songs live lately and I'm trying to match songs with titles.

Overall the new music is quite varied - Georgia sings a couple of rockers, and there's some long groovy tracks too, marvelous bass lines. I like the new mp3, although I wonder what Georgia is doing, since there aren't any drums (perhaps she's doing the Floyd Crameresque piano?). I think YLT has been using the drum machine too much, but it's hard to criticize this song, it's so perfectly crafted.

based solely on the title, this is already my favorite song of 2003.

hmmm i liked the mp3 they posted, it has that lovely elegant laid back masterful feel a lot of yo la tengo stuff had, especially recent stuff, but i was listening to it and just thought that bits of it, or more specifically the vocal lines, seem lifted from And then nothing... damn it and i can't remember which song. but it does have that feel. I suppose it makes me want to hear the whole album more, but i hope they haven't retreaded too-much. sans vocals, the mp3 would sound brilliant alongside the sounds of the sounds... but I'd hope they'd, um, I dunno, break a bit for the new one... as it stands, the last two albums "proper" (i.e. matador) were incredibly important to me: heart beating as one was my soundtrack to biking raound tokyo in mys spare time off work there, and then nothing... was a big part of the pretty shitty year after that. i suppose i'm putting too much pressure on the single track they've put out, but I hope they haven't treaded the water too much.

The half-spoken vocals remind me of much of And then nothing....the music is a bit like Saturday. But I've heard 3 of the other songs live, and none of them sound much like anything else on the last CD.
