What do you all think about it?

Any particular reason this was removed? It's a fair assessment of what happend.

I saw these folks at The Troubadour (LA) last night and was really into the first half-hour - as expected, they pumped out sheets of ethereal noise, perfect to tune in or zone out to. A few too many jam-band listeners in the crowd but, hey, what are you gonna do?

Anyway, the trouble started thirty minutes or so into the set, when Shineywater (guitar/vocals) started mumbling vaguely antagonistic and insulting comments into his mic, badmouthing Los Angeles (easy target) and the venue. He soldiered on for another tune, then went full-on petulant baby. He dropped his guitar, removed his poncho and moronic visor, then tried to unplug his bandmate's organ while also physically attempting to stop her from playing. Shineywater started ranting, loudly dissing the crowd - who were all polite and even reverential - and then rushed up into the VIP area where he continued his ugly tirade. He started making threats, then security swept in. The rest of the band tried to keep playing, but by then the energy and life was sucked out of the entire enterprise. Through it all, Shineywater came off as a spoiled kid, angry at something that had zero to do with the set and infantile enough to take it out an adoring crowd who'd payed money to see his band perform, not to sit through his insults and sneering. I wish I'd stuck around long enough to see security manhandle the little puss.

Overall, a total waste of time. I'll listen to them on my stereo from now on, thank you very much.

Nabob has asked us to post the following :

"Anyone from LA, who is writing about the BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT 7/28/2006 LA show, please consider the following:

A) After 30 minutes of music, a PA System derived feedback occured that injured Nabob's ear.

B) BBML believe the Sound Engineer wasn't trying to fix this, which is their job.

C) BBML also believe that the venue itself should pay top salary to their Sound Engineers before they charge the patron, $7 per Heineken.

D) Nabob & Rabob share electronic devices while OnStage, they have to be unplugged in order to not damage our gear. This is what Nabob was unplugging with an injured ear, because he couldn't play anymore. (we share an instrument tuner)

E) Most of the people there in LA were Industry folks with a stake in something somewhere. We probably won't play in that town again.

F) Anyone interested in our music would have enjoyed the following nite, when Colm O'Coesig (ex My Bloody Valentine) participated @ the Mix Board.....and the ales were affordable too!"

Wow, I was out of town so I missed this show, but it sounds like it was a good thing I didn't go.

The Troubadour Sucks. Most places on the West side of LA suck.

Sucks that he hurt himself, but to say that he probably isn't playing LA anymore because of a bad show at the Troubadour! is a bit much.

Better LA Venues:

The Smell
The Echo/Ex Plex
Little Pedro's
Spaceland
Mr. T's Bowl
The Scene
El Cid
Silverlake Lounge
Il Corralle
Compact Art Space
Safari Sam's

Plus a bunch of other new Art Spaces, etc.

Funny, I just saw that BBML is touring the west coast with Mojave 3, and they are playing every date before, and after the 2 LA area dates... He really must hate it bad.

The closest one is the Joshua Tree Desert show...

Our understanding is that the BBML are playing the Mojave 3 date at the Roxy on Friday the 29th, but not the Santa Monica date on the 1st.

Here is the definitive schedule:

If he hated the Troubadour... Then he's definately gonna hate the Roxy...

That's cool though, I'll definately be going.
