Now that Pig Lib's been out for a little while, which Jicks album does everyone prefer?

At first, I liked Stephen Malkmus a lot more and wasn't into Pig Lib at all. But now Pig Lib's my favorite ... the songs from the first album just seem so simple in comparison. The first album is still great, and I still love it - but lately I've been putting on Pig Lib much more often. The more I listen to it, the better it gets (except for maybe "Us").

Thoughts?

I think "Pig Lib" will prove to be greater down the line for me. I still listen to it quite a bit, and I haven't listened to the first one in a long while.

Pig Lib definitely. Best album of the year, in my opinion.

I seem to have a weird opinion of the debut, in that certain songs I love (Blackbook) others very much dislike. Accordingly, I find "Church on White" sort of boring, whereas most think it's beautiful.

I don't care for much of Malk's debut, but I do like "Black Book" bunches, and can't figure out why people hate it so. that said, Pig Lib is better by a landslide.

Since there seems to be a consensus, fill in the blank:

Pig Lib is the best thing SM has done since _________.

I say Brighten the Corners.

I enjoy Pig Lib a lot more than the s/t album. The first one never really grew on me, but Pig Lib has rarely left my CD player.

When you compare both albums, the first one has more "throwaway" songs, whereas the songs on Pig Lib sound as though Malkmus is more comfortable with the Jicks. They're more "mature" sounding than the s/t songs.

I even enjoy "Sheets" and "Craw Song" even though those are the two songs that most people don't like.

There seem to be a smaller number of people who like the first Jicks album better.

I think it's more fun to listen to than Pig Lib.

I like them both for different reasons. I think the second album is a much more solid and serious effort than the first.

Sure, the first album is fun to listen to, but there just doesn't seem to be much substance. I still dig it.

The second album continues to unfold, layer upon layer of great ideas. There are fun songs, there are serious songs, when the band stretches out together (1% of One) the music really solidifies.

Malkmus has put together a good band and it sounds like they rehearse, but not too much. I'm looking forward to the next album!

I'd have to say I like the s/t Malkmus album better.
