the following comes to us courtesy of Reckless Records :

"Another beautiful 39 degree May in Chicago has left some with a remodeled, refurbished winter anxiety (straight from the crappy adjective file). There's nothing more humiliating to one's optimism than having to dig up the winter jacket that had already been stored for the year in the closet... so on behalf of all or most of the population who needs a little peanut butter with their chocolate, we, Reckless bring you a chance to shed your cooped-upness, go on out, have a drink and "celebrate" (classically) the release of new cd/lp by THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS, "Electric Version", this Monday, May 5th from 10:00 on, at the Hideout. Now on Matador Records, the New Pornographers are made up of the ruins of one of my favorite "subpop is sinking" bands from the 90's, Zumpano. Their Colin Blunstone/Zombiesque/BigStarish sparkle pop has evolved with the addition of Dan Bejar of DESTROYER and the local greatness of Neko Case on vocals. Now it bomps along, happiness aside like sun and carnivals and power chords and woo-woo backgrounds and Kinks songs and some jangle and Chuck E. Cheese organ solos. SO... come to the Hideout at 1354 W.Wabansia on Monday night. The music will be playing, we will be giving away things that will make you rich on Ebay or in your heart. There will puppet shows. There will be friendly attempts to recreate a scene that somebody once heard about. There will be raffles. There will be superstars and Reckless staff walking around in their natural habitat. At midnight, the record will go on sale, your loved ones will cheer as you buy the first copy and at some point, around 1:30 you'll realize that your hiccups are gone and you are now married, potentially, to the great moment you are having. The record will be available every day after at both Reckless locations. Because we care, you must be 21 to enter the Hideout. Because we don't, you don't have to buy anything, just come. Be negative, even, just come."
