It was "The Greatest" - Teenie was ill and couldn't join on guitar - anyone see it?

I saw it. Noticed that Teenie wasn't there (hope he's feeling better). She looked adorable and sounded great. :D

I saw and it was great. The Greatest was probably my 2nd choice, so I am happy. I was shocked to see her in a frumpy hoody and huge shadowy hat, after her recent sexy apearances, but she still looked great. Shows that she is always changing and challenging, which I like a lot. Not sure the background singer meshes with her very well, though. I liked how she shadow-shot a basket when Conan thanked Charles Barkley for his appearance. She then grabbed Conan's arm to converse as the credits rolled.

Where could I see it ?... Is there a link to see Chan Marshall on Conan O'Brien show?

When I heard that only a few members of the Memphis Rhythm Band could be on the show and that Teenie was ill, I was really hoping everything would go off great anyhow. And it was great!!!! The rest of the band was still in Vegas watching. They are all in London now...and then on to the rest of the tour.
Best wishes from Memphis, Granny

She killed it. It was great. Reminds me that I need to revisit "The Greatest" again. I played it constantly when I first got it.

Sounded like the drum kit wasn't patched in or something for the first 30 seconds or so. Anyone else notice that?

I would be curious as to what you think about them paying off major media by granting them equity in YouTube thereby avoiding paying artist royalties.

I'm not enthusiastic! I would much rather we all got monetization in YouTube's obviously robust revenue stream. At the time being only the majors are benefiting. And nobody should be able to get money for content and avoid paying artist royalties. Though I'm assuming that if the content's being removed, then nobody's being paid - this perhaps shows that NBC or its parent company doesn't have a deal yet.

Btw, the artist and the label NEVER get paid for network TV appearances, aside from desultory one-off union payments for performance. Then, years later, if you want to license a couple clips for a DVD, you can look at $65K for the pair. Great huh?

I have the video from that performance , the quality is awesome, recorded with a HDTV. I was going to post the rapidshare link for you all but I would prefer to know before if I'm allowed to do that...it's only 32 mb.
I'll be waiting for your replies...

I'll pm you if you want, but I would prefer to post it here than having to pm 30 or 50 ppl ;) and if you never used those videos before, you may need to install the divx or xvid codec to view it, or use the vlc player.

I don't understand how life works
if they think that they can control everything in the world , they are wrong. They should pay Chan instead of wanting to get paid for that. I don't see the difference with that and a bootleg personally.

How life works is that big corporations control big media outlets. Neither Matador nor Chan gets paid (other than a token union fee) when she performs on a major late-night show, and moreover, the network owns the recording in perpetuity. There's no performance right in the US so no royalties are paid to Matador or Chan when it's broadcast or re-broadcast (however the publisher collects via the performing right societies - ASCAP, BMI, SESAC - Chan if she's the songwriter, the original publisher if it's a cover song).

ok...but I meant that it's ridiculous to try to stop everything, even on ebay, people are selling vhs tapes of the best moments of artists from talk shows and they don't do anything about it there. I know I bought a tape there LOL I was glad to find interviews that i would have never found otherwise you see. have a great day...anyway no one is pming me almost for the video so I'm ok LOL

CTG,

It's unlikely a big corporation like NBC would ever take action against you, an individual (despite the RIAA lawsuits!)

But they do go after other companies. That's the issue about posting them here.

Thanks

So she would just get a publishing royalty for having written the song but no fee for actually performing on the show?

A small union fee yes but no performance royalties - US law is fucked up that way.

Wankers, they should be giving her more money. I don't have cable or anything so Im unfamiliar with Conan's show but I have no doubt that her appearance on it raised the quality of it considerably.

Does mean then that whenever Matador wants to use TV footage in a DVD they have to pay for it? I think of that bit of Jay Leno footage from the Pavement DVD that was only a few seconds long. Surely they ewouldnt want money for something so short?

yeah I was not really afraid for myself, but I thought it was illegal on a big site like ebay
and about the RIAA, I've never heard that anyone had problems with them here in Canada, they have tried to scare some isp's but they can't do anything. It's been the same story since 2004, they were going to do something and nothing has changed. Btw I still have 16$ on itunes from the prepaid card that I bought for Chan, I bought only 4 songs, the live session. That's how poor the other music is, I don't know what to download even if it's prepaid. Maybe I should download Chan even if I have her other albums just to give her the money. But I'm guessing already that she doesn't get much on the 99 cents...
I finally burned the session on cd, great job really! the sound is amazing even on my old ghetto blaster .
I agree about the dvd, I want one as well and other live sessions like the one on Itunes.

yeah I'm sorry I forgot about the other artists from Matador...

and Max, if Patrick doesn't answer you about the live DVD , it's because they want to keep it secret and that they ARE working on it ;)

Don't forget to put a one hour interview with Chan on that DVD, Patrick...not only music =)
