Im not implying that the label was doomed or whatever.
But Interpol is the first new band in a long time that the label has brought out and been successful on a commercial and critical level.
All the press around Interpol put Matador back in the map sort of...the label seemed to be gearing towards being the label whom the indie rock kings and queens of the 90's were on (malkmus, yo la tengo, jsbx, mogwai, cat power)...and now they label has a great new band with torrents of love from fans and critics alike....whom can potentiall have a long career on the label.
(hopefully they wont go the route of....hot hot heat and sign to a major).
Eventually all those bands from the 90's will retire and Interpol seems like the best signing theyve made in a long time.
Thoughts?

If so, I would shoot Matador at close range, just like when u have a favorite but seriously injured horse. Ok, I wouldn't, but that's some question u posted, huh?

the label didn't need saving. it's my impression that the label invests in artists building a catalog. in the long run, the bands on this label will be more successful and profitable, because fans and consumers will want to buy the entire back-catalog of a certain band, whereas in ten years, Faith Hill CDs will be gathering dust in the $1.99 bin. just because Matador may (or may not) have had a few slow years doesn't mean it was in any need of saving.
Seriously, does anybody still care aboot Interpol? Aside from the Interpol/Pixies/50 Cent mash up I stumbled over last week, it's been months since Interpol has made any noise at all.

I'm happy someone got the reference! I love the movie, and can brag having stayed at the hotel at which some of the movie was filmed.

Funk - what songs were in that mash up? Sounds great!
Interpol's contribution to the above mentioned mash-up track is "NYC", along with the Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)" (which doesn't work nearly as well as the Interpol part).

Just because they aren't scoring every single musically-inclined magazine cover, does not mean that people do not care about them anymore.

I never saw them on a single music magazine cover, and saw their album in the store twice (one person told me the only reason he stocked it was to get Fusion III off his back). I just assumed they were the indie rock equivilent of the Streets: once the year end polls came out, they faded from any and all discussion.

In these parts it's hard not to see Interpol. There is a poster on the front window of Borders, even. The only reason I haven't invested much interest in the band lately is because they are still touring on TOTBL, much like the Strokes did with their album, much like anyone would do with such a critically acclaimed album.

Interpol did not "save" Matador - I like the guy who posted who posted about investing in bands and building a catalog that sells constantly. That said, we are not unhappy with Interpol's performance.
Funk, for whatever reason, Interpol's profile in the US and UK is considerably larger than in Canada (covers include the NME, Magnet and Pollstar) and the record is still selling. Radio is just picking up on "Obstacle 1", the new single.
Some ways to go with Turn On the Bright Lights...

the success of the most recent Yo La Tengo, SM, Cat Power, New Pornographers and Mogwai albums...along with the forthcoming Pretty Girls Make Graves and Matmos CD's...will save us from having to talk about which one band in particular saved us.
Certainly the hubbub surrounding Interpol has made people look at Matador for a 2nd or first time, depending on how old or fed up they were. And that's OK...we're all about inclusion.
I was counting on ELO II to save us, except a) they're not on Matador and b) they're really awful.

all will be revealed in the next news update. But you can expect a new CD/LP in the autumn.
