Although I hope that at some point there is a Crooked Rain, Slanted, and Wowee Zowee 180gram reissue in the works, how about two B side collections on vinyl? A 2LP 180gram set of the extra tracks from the Slanted cd reissue and a 2Lp set from the Crooked Rain extra tracks. You could do a pre order to gauge how many to make but I think those things will sell really well.

I can already hear the roars of the "Matador's just gouging the fans" crowd warming up.
Honestly, I think its kind of a terrible idea, especially so long after the already stunning CD sets have been released. The faithful already got the reissues, they're now easy to get as a part of a more economically viable package. Each reissue would warrant a double or triple LP for all the extra material, which would be something on the order of $19-25 apiece in Matador prices, and I have a hard time thinking that anyone but the most monetarily flush Pavement fans would be willing to shell out $70+ for vinyl versions of the material they've already now owned for a few years.
I would have LOOOVED if each of the recent reissues had come out in deluxx LP versions a la the Soft Boys reish from a few years back (2CD/3LP + 7") but sadly, I think it only would have worked as a simultaneous release.

I would simply dig if Wowee Zowee were reissued on vinyl in its original configuration. Original copies in decent condition are seriously pricey and I would love to experience it in its original format. Damn I love that album. Love the reissue too, all of them thus far. The CRCR reissue is what got me belatedly into Pavement and all I can say is I'm awfully grateful I finally did. Now I'm obsessed and loving it.
Hmm, I didn't even realize (I guess because I haven't been shopping for them) that the Pavement titles had fallen out of print on vinyl. Keeping them live seems like a no-brainer to me.

Were their albums originally released on vinyl when they came out? or only reissues?/
Yeah, they were all initially released on vinyl along with cd and cassette releases.

I remember hearing that the sequencing on the WZ cassette was cool. Not that the order was different, but I guess due to the length of sides available on the cassettes, the songs were butted up to each other closer and in some cases ran into each other differently. Old School Fake Matador boss robin/stupid was telling me about that years and years ago...

yeah, they're all OOP on vinyl, which makes me sad.
I do wonder how it is that labels like SST or Dischord keep ALL their old LPs in print, but others like Matador or Drag City don't. I mean, I can imagine its as unprofitable for both. And SST isn't even really an active label, but you can still buy Double Nickels on the Dime brand new on LP...

It's a long story, mostly having to do with pressing plants going out of business... but also the huge expense of printing minimum jacket runs of 2500.
All the RTI stuff will stay in print so long as it sells decently.
The stuff that was pressed at our former, unmourned plant, 33 1/3, is unfortunately locked up in the building, as the company makes its way through bankruptcy. They have our components, some of our vinyl, and all of the lacquers for a good number of our key LP catalog (Cat Power, Pavement, Belle, Interpol etc.)
It's been so many months now that we may actually recut some of the hotter titles.

Patrick Hey, you could press up a few Pavement titles for yourself and sell them for mad money on eBay. Get yourself a nice little house outside of the city!

I was just re-reading this and I have to say this is wildly inaccurate (and very unlike you Tinobeat.) If you wanted to buy Lungfish LPs or Rites of Spring on LP you're gonna be waiting a while. For any label with more than a handfull of releases it is going to be hard to keep multiple formats in print and the back catalog vs. new releases war will forever be present.
But yeah, we've got some nice vinyl reissues coming your way. Pavement "Slanted...", "Crooked..." & "Wowee..."
Both Interpol LPs
Cat Power "Moon Pix" & "You Are Free"
Belle & Sebastian "Tigermilk", "...Sinister", "Boy With..." & "Fold Your Hands"
All RTI 180 gram pressing.
First batch April 10.
Second batch April 24th.
They'll be up on the Matador store soon, and of course available in cool record shops all over.

Patrick- I know it's only been 3 months since this post, but what are the odds that Matador will ever be able to recover those lacquers and components? Obviously you've gone ahead and started re-pressing some of those titles, but I can't imagine it was cheap...

I just noticed this pwnage. yikes! :)
I could have sworn I saw these things still in print and thought it to be true. I guess I thought that based on the fact that some of the really popular titles are still in print. My bad!
Also, that's amazing news about the LP reissues! you guys rule!

awesome news. now i don't have to pay 25bucks for B&S IYFS on jeepster. . . but it is a very nice gatefold, that jeepster pressing. . . which leads me to this inquiry, any info on the matador packaging? and, are the pavement reissues going to be reissued from the original albums or the cd-reissues??

I'm curious to explore mastering differences between the old Belle and Sebastian vinyl, and the latest batch of reissues. Were they remastered? If so, who handled the remastering?
Have you compared them and noticed any differences?
