So I have heard about covers of songs like Wonderwall by Oasis, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hard Times in New York Town by Bob Dylan, The Ocean by the Velvet Ungerground, etc etc etc... and I was wondering, where the hell can I find these? I know they are out there, but anyone know where? Or anyone want to show some love and maybe share them?

first off, Matador is going to delete that link so you might as well edit it out.
looking at the track list, I recognize:

1 Deep Inside
2 Wonderwall
4 Free Bird
5 Knocking on Heaven's Door
7 Hard Times in NYC
as being covers from radio sessions

10 Psychic Hearts 03:51
11 We Dance 03:02
12 Johnny's Got a Gun

from a 7" of covers, the first is Thurston Moore, the second is Pavement, can't remember the third

13 Clear the Room

from the split 7" with Guv'ner, each artist covered the other's song

14 Schizophrenia Is Weighting Me Down
b-side from Nude as the News CD5

Also, I understand the concept of copyright, but it`s not like these songs are readily available, and it`s not as if I wouldn`t pay for them should they become available

Do you understand the concept of someone getting paid $1.00 per download, plus ad revenue, and not reimbursing Cat Power or Matador a cent for using their music?

Moving on, is there any chance Matador will license the Peel material for future release?

I would hope so.

I'm not mad at people for downloading unavailable material, btw - I'm mad at unscrupulous sites that sell Chan's music - and our music (some of the music they had for sale was Chan's not Matador's some was both) to people and don't compensate label or artist. And who sell advertising revenues off the back of our music.

As I suspected, this particular site is in Russia, along with some other similar pirate sites that are tolerated by the Russian government... all that is going to end as the price for Russia's admission to the WTO. Or so it's said.

Of course I understand this, especially being involved on the business side of music myself. I hadn`t really checked out the site though, and was not aware that they were selling it.

Peel Sessions aside, there is SO much out there. I understand that she is releasing another Covers album and another album of original material (which I guess are actually a bunch of older songs?), but that barely scratches the surface.
