View Full Version : I met her!

I met Chan at her London gig supporting Dirty Three last night!! She's even lovelier in real life !!

Great gig too.. played 3 new songs right at the start... they were really good...

Didn't play much off You Are Free... just "I don't blame you", "Evolution" and one other.. I was dying for her to play "Werewolf" and "Fool" but she didn't.

It was only a support slot but she was in a great mood, kept saying how happy she was etc. No backing band, just her and her piano and guitar.

We walked in .. early.. the venue was just slowly filling up, she was just standing at the bar!! I nearly wet myself!! She's soooo gorgeous. I am really star struck!!

sorry, i have to disagree. we were very disappointed in cat power. we were expecting good thingd with all the build up, but she proved more than "difficult". she hardly finished a song, overran by 15 minutes, was an insult to the paying audience.

contrast to the excellent dirty three.

There was a time when I used to get frustrated at the shows when I really wanted to hear a phrase from a song and it was cut off but the dirty three show was just so much fun.

She was drunk and happy and funny and kicked in with that voice just enough for the audience to forgive everything. Perhaps she could have taken the show a bit more seriously but I got the impression she was having some fun at someone else's show.

Perhaps there should be a disclaimer on the tickets saying TONIGHT CAT POWER WILL BE DOING ANYTHING SHE WANTS TO.

Pretty cool by me.

Yes, my experience was pretty similar. She played a song or two and then proceeded to sit and read a magazine, or flyer or something. Everyone kinda just stood around for ten minutes kinda dumbfounded. This was like five years ago though. Didn't really bother me that much, I just didn't understand why you would charge people to hear your music and not play at least a few songs. While I always have respect for the "screw everyone else" attitude, the rock star treatment was a little uncool.

Maybe she's matured now. Either way, she's a great song writer so I could care less about her personal attitude.

i hate to further disappoint you...but cat power is allowed to act in whichever manner she pleases. Everybbodys worried about their almighty fuckin dollar when obviously she is not be indebted to you because you bought her album......how much is your soul worth....bear with it guyz and quit the whimpering.....

So pink press rat came all the way over here to save rock and roll, oi mate? Have to tell you when a show SUCKS it simply SUCKS. Nobody likes that except if you're a "press rat" (are ya, darlin'?) and you don't pay a dime for your ticket. Even then, although you do have to put up with a shit concert, afterwards it's just sooo much fun ripping it to shreads in the review, ain't it! Well if miss Marshall is allowed to act in whichever manner she pleases, then I should be allowed to say "she plays like crap when she's drunk" anytime I please. Except if the moderator doesn't like this message and cuts it out! I have to say her album is worth every penny but her shows just don't pay... Hell, forget about the money, what about the TIME I wasted seeing her sad act? It was just so boooooring...

Am i the only one getting tired of reading peoples opinions of Cat Power shows?

Don't rely on the internet to make decisions for which concerts you go to. If you want to go, go. Once you pay for a ticket and go, take it for what it is. But don't try to "SAVE" us all from wasting our money or whatever it is you think you're doing.

It's a fucking concert, for godssake. Get a life, people.

06-22-2003, 04:37 AM
Pardon me if I'm wrong but I'd have thought a likely subject for discussion on an artist's forum is what that artist's gigs are like. If you don't like the threads, get a life and don't read them. the one thing worse than people whining about her gigs, and that's people whining about the people whining.

jabber_meow
06-22-2003, 09:12 PM
and if we could be face to face and not text to text, i'd rip your dick off and shove it down your throat.

you're just another God complex.

and now i'm whining about you whining about me whining about whiners whining about Cat Power shows.

Can we take this to an even deeper level now?

Bring it on.

Losers who threaten physical violence on the internet are just SO scary.

Fuck off, you silly twat.

the only question that lingers in my head now is what the hell it meant by take it deeper. The convo about bullshit or the penis?

anyways, calling that convo deep kinda struck me funny.

jabber_meow

j_felcher

you need to read thumb-arses post more carefully:
"Losers who threaten physical violence on the internet are just SO scary.
Fuck off, you silly twat."

what makes you so sure I have a dick anyway? Sorry to inform you that this isn't an all-male site (don't worry, it's free, so you don't have to get a refund!)

and what the hell is this?: "stupid bastard bitching bout empty threat." (1-800-PHONICS should help you there)

figures you'd wonder what it meant by 'take it deeper'. sounds like you and thumbarse oughta get together so you can ram your coolness into each others' "depths" until your God-complex cavities overflow. so mysterious how you inform each other of your penis size...

thomarse
06-24-2003, 12:43 AM
I didn't assume you were a male!? Although I'm surprised that a woman would say something so stupid, they're normally on a higher level than us men.

J_fancher
06-25-2003, 04:52 PM
yeah, fer sure.

but hey, how can you assume it's a woman? All it said was how can you assume i have dick? I dont think anyone ever said a word about it's dick, whether it has one or not, or whatever.

Silly subject, and the lines are all crossed anyways.

i think it has a serious scatterbrain issue, worse than even, say, me.

thomarse
06-26-2003, 05:11 AM
oh I've no idea. I just suspect that a bloke wouldn't get upset if you assumed (correctly) that he was a bloke. I don't even know where all that came from, because I never even said "you're a man" or even inferred anything.

Must have been pure paranoia!!

And don't be hard on yourself. None of us are 100% sane.

It's easy, just click your heels three times and imagine you are a cow passing through the eye of a needle and the eye is actually the eye of a hemmoraging blob and the blob is ventillating, and then orgamsing, and the whole orgasm appears on the table of an imp[ortant luncheon; bleeding, pus-letting, it finally expires and the attendees relent to carving and eating it, but first it must be dedicated to our armed services and men of office.

Brown hair is always debatable. Is it tan, is it brown, is it
chocolate, is it chestnut, or is it... cinnamon? I believe copper

I guess I shouldn't share this personal dream (Im definitely no groupie) but here goes anway:

Having lost some of the details, I procede with Chan having moved to city (X), as relayed by a mutual friend (?) which happens to be my old home turf. Apparently she has moved into this nice old home- really somewhere between house and mansion, having a tiled deck and granite railing in the back. Later in the dream I am asleep and wake up --or perhjaps I am still asleep-- and find myself going to her house (led by curiosity and this intuiting guidance). She is wandering out alone on this granite deck. Her coming towards the ledge, I duck beneath it hiding (wanting to remain invisible slightly longer as I myself am not sure what I am doing there) which is of no use because she clearly saw me. Shes asks what I am doing. I laugh and say that I am just getting the spider webs out of my eyes (while doing so with my fingers), then I say hello. She is surprised, pleasantly it seems, and I explain that I found her because "I dreamed it" and then insist "but I hope I'm not dreaming now".

She invites me in and introduces me to her three pets. The first one is a little brown losaobsa (sp) that had been running around joyously, and somewhat haphazardly. The other two were larger, tamer dogs. She explains that these are "the good dogs" (while I am thinking I really prefer the little losaobsa! (sp)).

So, I am hanging out in the house, which has a generous amount of rooms and room-space, and If I remember correctly, tasteful old conservative decorations. She is sad but wants to be alone, so I lay down in the living room and play with her dogs, my general presence performing the duty of keeping her company as she stays in this large house alone.

Eventually I see her again and walk up to her closely, holding her face, brushing the hair to one side, trying to impart some kind of tenderness through the eyes, it seemed. At around this point, or soon after, lightning strikes, crashing outside my bedroom window. I wake up and there is no other thunder, only a little rain that is slowly beginning.

I love having dream about famous people I admire.
They don't happen often enough.
so I guess you woke up happy and a
bit wistful maybe?.

silver_glider
05-02-2004, 09:44 PM
I woke up and closed the windows so the rain wouldn't come in and then went back to bed and dreamed that I was a chess piece in "a ballet of mice". They were each dressed up and dancing, and the one kept looking at me to watch my ques but I couldn't move (physically) until after the curtains closed. So I just wept. Such a terrible performance!

i just have to agree with you jabber_meow...thats exactly what i tell my freinds that have already seen her
i just went to my first cat power show on sunday may, 23 (2004) and i thought it was great. she played all the songs i was dying to hear. it was great while it lasted, but my freind got sick over her drink and we had to leave early. i was greatly dissapointed and cried all the way home..that show was perfect and i had to miss the best part - the end!!
and sure i can go see her again but its never as good as the first time.
so i just have to say to all of you to just shut up and let everyone else find out for themselves...if you like it, you like it. and she still plays at pretty small venues, so stop your complaining, it could've been a whole lot more expensive...
and keep this in mind: "no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse."
