Wow! Chavez just tore it up on Saturday night. This was highly anticipated as it was only my 2nd time seeing them live. The one and only other time I saw them was the Matador 10th Anniversary show way back in '99(?).

It was an adventure getting from Connecticut into the city as the trains were jammed with shoppers and tourists but it was certainly worth it. The Warsaw was packed and Clay Tarver noted it was the largest crowd the band had ever played to. That place has some scary bouncers. They all look like Eastern European mobsters. Chavez hit the stage after a rocking set by Endless Boogie. I didn't realize that the bass player for Endless Boogie is the guy who plays the emcee in the "Break up Your Band" video. He introduced the band and does that same line from the video, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Chavez" and they kicked off the night with Top Pocket Man. They follow with Break up Your Band which was stellar. The two guitar assault of the band coupled with Lo's drumming has to be seen live to be fully appreciated. I did not keep a set list and I'm hoping someone more eloquent than I will post a review with a full set list. I could start listing tunes they played but that gets boring when the list is incomplete and out of order. However, a few standouts in my mind were Laugh Track, Pentagram Ring and Hack the Sides Away.

I've heard some rumblings of new material from Chavez. A new record, a full blown tour? Who knows. I do know that if these guys are within 250 miles of your home, every effort should be made to be in that room. If someone has a full set list, please post it. Also, I missed the swag table and never saw the shirts. I'd love to get my hands on one of those Chavez shirts that Scott Marshall was wearing. If anyone has a hookup on one of those, let us know.

Yes, I wanted to share the same sentiments with the above about Chavez. Re: new album and whatnot. Obviously this music industry is difficult. If you want new music from Chavez, go see them, tell your friends to see them, and buy the new album. It's simple and easy. Bands and labels respond quite well to fan interest.
I was stunned at how "on" the band was, without practicing as a full band since that show in '99 (if we believe what Matt said about Scott...) Little disappointed there was not any promised new material, but hey, the previous sentence answers that one. Broken wrists and all...
Incredible live sound by Bob Weston.
and of course....THE JAMES LO!
