Spiral Stairs can't sing...

Is it just me or is it just completely annoying to hear Spiral sing on Pavement records or in PSOI? Ugh! PSOI would be so much better with a good singer.

I knew I would catch heat from my earlier comments about Spiral, but I was just curious if anyone else felt the same. Don't get me wrong, I love Pavement and every member of the band. I just think that Spiral should of just stuck with guitar. Comparing Malkmus to Spiral when it comes to singing isn't quite fair. I do think Malkmus is a very unique singer...not in the pretty sounding voice kinda way. Just has a unique and warm way about it at times (AT&T, Shoot the SInger, etc.). But yes, he can sing in a very annoying way at times also...Pig Lib has many moments where this is true.
Oh well, to each his own. Just one mans opinion. No need for people to be rude about it.

check the songs 'kennel district' & 'coolin' by sound'--both are great tunes and spiral does a fine job singing on 'em. too little attention is paid to sm's ability to emote as a singer. he's got a limited but decent range that is by turns funny, sincere, angsty, ironic and expressive. 'it's in how you inflect'....

Last I checked, Spiral wasn't in SM and the Jicks. Hmmm.

But I always liked Spiral's voice on "Kennel District" and even "Painted Soilders"—his voice made the song and I could never have imagined Malk singing them. But whatever. *shrug*

In defense of scott, When he sings live his voice sounds as good as on record, Malkmus on the other hand...............

For whatever strange reason, Spiral sounds much better on the PSOI release than on any other previous recording where he is singing lead.
