Some of you were interested in the economics of music sales as they affect labels and publishers (or recording artists and songwriters).

Here's an interesting article on the battle between labels and publishers for shares of ringtone revenues - one that isn't hopelessly ill-informed, for once:

(though he does seem to have missed, or glossed over, the issue of public performance royalties potentially payable on ringtone sales)

I have nothing relevant to say about this specifically. However when I worked at Sony there was this Jessica Simpson voicemail concept that the folks in the lab were pretty psyched about. You could personalize the message to say your name within some single that was out at the time and while I forget the actual lyrics it was something like, "Julia's steppin out for a minute or two, call back, call back, aaaaaah ah ah."

Don't know what Matador artist would be most amenable to this but trust me it kills with 15 year old little sisters.
