For me: upcoming tunes from both Modest Mouse and The Shins.

ZZ Top Mescalero (if RCA ever decides to release it, that is)

Modest Mouse for sure. Maybe the next Westerberg CD and DVD. And lastly, the Yo La Tengo EP.

When is the Pixies DVD suppose to be released? I haven't even heard of it. Wow, I love the Pixies!

Forgive my trendiness, but I'm looking forward to the new Radiohead album.

The new Mogwai is also on my to-buy-when-it-comes-out list.

Don't care about whether it's considered trendy or not.

Radiohead (++++++++++...so looking forward to this even if I already have it on my computer)
Modest Mouse (just saw them play this past Monday...they put on an amazing show even if they had 2 opening bands, started late, and the environment and the sound was just plain shite)
The Mars Volta
Mogwai

Can't think of anything else...

Paul

Wow, Squall. Your selections read exactly like my "to avoid at all costs" list.

Paul -

You've become a mean man. Are you really not interested in any of those bands?

Paul
05-18-2003, 12:56 AM
I've had a well-known bias against the Mouse for years now. Not interested in ever hearing the new Radiohead album (mastered or not) again. Mars Volta has former AtDI members, right? No interest there. And then there's Mogwai...my distaste for Mogwai is eclipsed only by my anti-Modest Mouse and/or my anti-Bright Eyes bent.

I didn't mean to kick up any hateful dust in this thread. I just found it peculiar that all these bands/albums were mentioned in the same post.

sorry if you didn't want it paul but here's some back up. i haven't cared for radiohead since their first album, modest mouse is interesting though nothing new. mogwai's attempt at bleeding teens' ears is unpersuasive. and the little omaha suburbanite of bright eyes can go whine some place else, though when he gets all pissy w/ the desaparecidos it at least becomes tolerable.

um, not real sure when exactly....
i believe it's in the fall for you northern hemispherians, which makes it in a few months.....

Yeah, Bright Eyes' voice is quite horrible.

Need I mention GBV? I'm surprised no one else has. Also, Fountains Of Wayne's newie. And Sumday by Grandaddy.

Bright Eyes is horrible in my view. Ugh! And some critics compare Conor to Robert Smith, Bob Dylan, and Paul Westerberg...are you kidding me?

Well he's young. He needs to learn to use subtlety to his advantage, at which point he can become a decent songwriter. At this point he is a second or third-rate Elliott Smith.

Somewhere, I hear Elliott Smith weeping.

I definitely thought Mono/Stereo was Paul's best work since Don't Tell A Soul (that's a fucking long time), so I'm psyched for the new one.

Once more, All Shook Down gets the shaft. Oh well, that's fine. I'm content with being the only person who really likes it.

Perhaps my most anticipated album is The Rapture. After that come Modest Mouse and Grandaddy.

Partly 'cause it's the only one I have on CD (I've got all the rest on vinyl) and partly 'cause it's a great album. It certainly blows the crap out of Don't Tell a Soul!

and bitterness and condescension (coupled with a lot of feckless immaturity) wouldn't happen to mark the 'rape your mom' comment, would it?

Broadcast - Ha Ha Sound
Spiritualized - Amazing Grace

The new Broadcast EP is excellent, as was their recent NYC show of mainly new material I think. Really looking forward to the album....

As for Spiritualized, I listened to the last one maybe 4 or 5 times before it started collecting dust but Lazer Guided Melodies is one of my all-time faves and I like most everything else they've put out. So I have hope.

Wow. (blows away dust) This thread is old. Anyway I thought I had seen this before. I'm looking forward to the new Black Heart Procession album the spell, I really enjoy their work, especially for drinking alone. I'm waiting until may 9th to hear anything though.

Fuck Off Machete more than anything. But I'm also curious about that new Walkmen album.

I'm curious about the Walkmen doing Nilsson album, but I don't hold out too much hope for it. Of that crowd, I'm more looking forward to the Child Ballads record. It's by the guy who sang for them back when they were Jonathan Fire Eater, and JSBX's Judah Bauer plays on it.

I saw them open for Dead Meadow a while back, and really dug it.

Kimya Dawson Now your comments about the National the other day make a whole lot more sense. You hate music, apparently.

They played a bunch of new stuff at a show a few months back. Sounded GREAT!

Can't wait for the new one!

i'm excited to hear the new record by the evangelicals, it comes out in june. i liked them a whole lot in austin. probably a bunch of other ones as well, i'm blanking right now...

oh and michael mayer's 'immer 2'. last i read, it's now slated for june ... there were licensing issues w/ the tracks, apparently. (take it all with a grain of salt, that's probably third- or fourth-hand.)
