They posted an amazing soundboard recording of Cat Power in Berlin (11/09/2006). Someone from Matador (maybe) posted an anonymous comment asking for the show to be removed, so rbally took it down. The recording was great, but was hidden before many people had a chance to download it. However, I think it can still be streamed online at the hype machine.

i believe there is a bit of a misunderstanding regarding this particular issue. we often have to ask a blog to remove content (or links to it) that is up without our (or the artist's) permission. unlike scary RIAA letters, we do so in as non-threatening a way as possible, typically in the comments of a post because many bloggers do not make their email available. (i also usually offer to send some promo CDs to make sure they know there are no hard feelings)

i was the one who posted on the rbally blog requesting that the links be removed. it was/is rbally's policy to not post nor link to mp3s without the permission of the artist and label.

in a comment (where i said i was a represenative of Beggars Group and Matador Records) i pointed out that no such permission had been granted. there were no hard feelings nor ugliness. he complied pretty much immediately and sent me the following email:

adam,

It's no issue.

I wish Chan appreciated how many folks discoverd her
music this way . . . and from my perspective her liver
performances are stunning . . . but the artist has to
drive it, right?

this has been debated on other forums, so you can visit a thread where jennings (the guys who authored rbally) talks about why he quit his blog and how it wasn't about the Cat Power removal request:

and another discussion where we debated the live show bootleg posting policy among blogs:

having said all this, i am bummed out that rbally is no longer and that i may have hastened that choice. but, i'm not bummed out about asking folks to remove stuff that has been posted without our permission.

what does Chan think about the whole thing?
does she not want her live shows to be shared?

While you are at it, Adam, feel free to send some CDs to:

Nathaniel Mela
407 Huntington Ave Apt 15
Boston, Ma 02115

or am I going to have to post some bootleg`d cat power shows to get some free swag?

and what if everyone simply went out and bought The Greatest, would an artist need to charge 35 euro (for a show)?

Really? It seems like this sort of calculus is like cutting off Peter's nose to spite Paul's face. Or something.
