Yes folks, she's back - Brit Award-Nominee (feels weird saying that) Cat Power returns to these shores in May with Dirty Delta Blues (featuring such luminaries as Jim White of The Dirty Three on drums and Judah Bauer of The Blues Explosion on guitar).
I've not seen her perform with Dirty Delta Blues yet, but the live recordings I've heard of her recent shows are phenomenal. Serious.
She plays The Forum in London on May 1st.
Tickets are available now from here (http://www.seetickets.com).
Obviously, I don't need to tell you guys that this will be AWESOME.

*jumps up and dowm*:)
Is there going to be a tour? I guess there won't be artists usually announce a whole tour all at once.

Why doesn't Chan ever venture away from the capital? Say Manchester for example.

this question is one ive asked alot ginge82 and it is a bit of a dead end cause matador says it is up to promoters to book her.
I know it is unfair cause culturally manchester is far superior to London and the people arent tossers.

Ahem, Olives, I've met at least 3 people in London that aren't tossers.:)
Sorry to rehash the answer that you've all heard a million times before, but Chan's live plans are up to her and her booking agent. Sorry!

So Chan decides on her own what cities to play and the booking agent makes it happen? How would she know where her audiences are? I figured Matador would keep track of that and make the appropriate suggestions. If Olives thinks there is an audience in Manchester why don't you pass that info along to her or her booking agent?

Well, how do you know we haven't Phillip?
Of course we keep track of sales etc in order to know where she's appreciated most, but the amount of shows that she plays and where she plays them are ultimately up to her. If she were to play everywhere that there was an audience for her, she'd be doing long, gruelling tours, which she doesn't want to do - and given that she's the one who has to do all the performing, we have to respect that.
Chan's in the UK in May because she's performing at All Tomorrow's Parties, and the date in London is an ATP show. ATP shows are almost exclusively London-centric - they're London-based promoters. I don't think a full tour was ever on the cards at this stage.
Believe me, we are mindful that people outside of London would like to see her play, and I'm sure Chan is too, but she's never been crazy about doing lots of shows in succession - they take a lot out of her, and it's her choice whether or not to go down that road.

I know that touring must be gruelling, but Manchester is not too far away. London smells funny! Its just a real shame:0( I just cannot cope with the endless hacks that play 'up north', its about time someone interesting graced our rather damp (but lovely) city.

Is touring the least bit profitable for the likes of Cat Power? I realize that even if an act breaks even, touring provides immeasurable exposure that can translate to record sales and other opportunities, but for instance, the whole Cat Power and memphis rhythm band tour, the tickets were not all that expensive and there were all these older professional musicians whom you actually have to pay in real money. Ya, I guess my question refers to that tour specifically. I'm sure Cat Power on a smaller scale like the current combo is profitable.

Cat Power live is never that much of a risk profit-wise, she generally sells out relatively large venues.
I think Chan is more concerned with whether or not she would be physically able to do successions of dates over any economic concerns, though.

Actually I think all of her shows that Ive been to have been ATP shows.
Don't other promoters care about her?:(

Chan and ATP have a really good working relationship - she's comfortable with them, and they've always been loyal and totally enthusiastic about her.
