Anyone listening to this yet? I've only listened to it a couple of times. I like it, just not sure how much. No anthems knock me out of my chair so far - a la "We Got Rocket." But I may eat those words.

Midheaven hasn't gotten the vinyl in yet, but my order is in. hopefully soon!
I listened to the mp3s once and really loved them, but I'm gonna wait to get a good listen on the home stereo to really hit it..

if we're talking about present the paisley reich, then i gotta say that "teenage lust!" is one of the best things ever. but i haven't heard anything else from the album, so...

Should be, though I don't have a copy yet either.

I've been rocking this for a while now and I'd suggest a few more listens because I'd say that it's got anthems to spare. Start eating.
Yes, "Allegory Gets Me Hot!" is on there, so is "Teenage Lust". I haven't seen the vinyl yet so I'm not sure if the two songs from the Columbus Discount Records 7" are on the vinyl, but they are on the CD which is quite a treat for the turntable deprived (9000, I'm sure your not the only one, just the one who was brave enough to open up to us.)

I have to agree with Dave. I've had a copy for three weeks now and on first listen it was good, but I wasn't blown away. After another handful of listens I was hooked and haven't stopped listening to it since.
From what I've read, the one-sided 12" will only include the nine songs that make up the album proper. The CD has six extra tracks, the two from their Columbus Discount Records 7", the three from their recent split 7" with Psychedelic Horseshit (still worth picking up though, the PH side is phenomenal) and one interlude (really just a segment from "Hiding In Machines") that serves to divide the bonus tracks from the album (a la "Sordid" from the Wowee Zowee reissue). The 12" will reportedly have the lyrics etched in the second side.

Yeah, starting to eat whatever ambivalent words I put out there last night.
In fact, I'm genuinely starting to dig this band. I definitely dig "Dig Yourself." And I definitely dig how they sound like some of indie's greatest lo-fi acts put in a blender - (early) GbV, (early) Superchunk, The Clean are ones that come to mind. But then it's hard to mistake them for anyone but themselves.
Can't wait till they come to Chicago.

This is the best band Matador has signed since I've been posting here

I finally got my copy of this yesterday, and it appeared to be the cause of two massive power cuts in my area, which I think makes it good! When I finally listened to it, I thought it was great. It does perhaps lack one really great song, but as a whole it's very exciting, and just different enough from the previous one. I'm also glad the previously released stuff is presented as bonus tracks, as they sound a bit different.
The only thing I'm a bit disappointed about is that my favourite, Allegory Gets Me Hot, doesn't sound as good as the live / radio versions. The WFMU version of that is one of the most exciting things I've ever heard, but this one sounds a little bit "generic indie band". Just a bit though.
Anyway, over all it is brilliant. There you are, not the most penetrating insight ever, but I'm sure I'm right!

Really...so glad this band exists. This is exactly the sort of thing we need more of.

the CD collects like 7 extra tracks from singles, it's basically an entire album in the end. I definitely like this one even more than Dig Yourself. And "New Times, New Hope" blows everything away, wtf at people saying there's not one amazing song

That "Bad Looks" is rather good, isn't it?

the CD has 6 extra tracks, of which Bad Looks, Common Cold and Lover's Lane are on the 7"EP split with Psychedlic Horseshit.
I'm not sure where the other 3:
Let Your Hair Grow Long
Hiding In Machines
Untitled
can be found on vinyl but if someone knows (or if they are even in print) let me know.
PtPR is awesome from beginning to end.

Let Your Hair Grow Long and "Hiding In Machines" are from the Columbus Discount Records "Busy Making Love and War" 7". I'm not sure if it is still in print.
Is the Untitled song the real short thing where they whisper "Dig Yourself" a couple of times?

the untitled song is a little over three minutes long and has lyrics
Is anybody elses cd copy mixed up at the end... Let Your Hair Grow Long and Hiding In Machines are switched on mine...
Come to think of it... I think my CD version is just royally fucked up...
I think that 12 second track messes it up... And is "Untitled" supposed to be "Hiding in Machines"? Anyone else with the CD version having this problem?
Seamus

The untitled one (or maybe it's called "+++") is the 12-second thing. Bad Looks is the "I love you more" song, and Hiding in the Machines is the last track
Thanks.. guess I just got a bad one.

Okay, I'm totally on board with TNV - both records. So much so that I've got the CD and the vinyl of Paisley Reich. And you gotta have both. Yeah, the vinyl lacks all the 7" songs, but man it's a cool record to look at. It packs all the songs - from "Imagine John Lennon..." to "Allegory Gets Me Hot" on one side. So you get this avalanche of brilliant, wildly eclectic, wildly wild songs. The second side of the vinyl has no music, but way cool graphics and liner notes etched into it. Someday, if I'm down on my luck, I will sell this record along with my Pavement vinyl for fortunes on ebay.
man they were so awesome in austin last night! i hadn't had that much fun at a show in a while. moshing in front with the dudes from psychedelic horseshit was major. was also majorly wasted on some good bourbon. fun times.

Six weeks from right around now I'll have gotten very drunk and rocked out to TNV. That seems like eons away.

Any chance of TNV coming to the UK any time soon??
