This may not exactly be a surprise, I know:

In what proved to be one of our worst kept secrets in recent memory, Matador is pleased to confirm that we've reached agreement on a longterm-ish pact with one of the nation's most wildly original bands, Shearwater of Austin, TX.

Read Gerard's whole post on the Matablog (http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/), and check out the new section (http://www.matadorrecords.com/shearwater) on the website.

We've got a new MP3 up too! It's a re-recorded version of "Red Sea, Black Sea (http://www.matadorrecords.com/shearwater/music.html)," special to our expanded Palo Santo reissue.

Good stuff - the expanded edition sounds awesome! Now I'm sort of glad I slept on this one first time around.

2007 will be a great year for matador for sure.

The original "Palo Santo" was easily one of the best records of 2006, and if the new "Red Sea, Black Sea" is any indication, the re-release is going to be even better.

Has Will Sheff left the band? He's not in the latest press photo from their website.

I've started a new thread on this subject.

I finally picked this up yesterday, and even with the amount of praise heaped on the design to date I was still stunned by it. Definitely one of the most gorgeous packages I've picked up.

If you like the cover art for the Shearwater package, I'd highly recommend having a look at John James Audubon's Birds of America (http://www.amazon.com/Audubons-America-Audubon-Society-Elephant/dp/0789208148/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-9164214-6570511?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180579632&sr=8-2). It has some of the most beautiful bird drawings that I've ever seen.

They look exquisite. I'll take a trip to the library to see if I can find it (one of the things I'll now have time for now I'm basically done with study as of this weekend!)

Thanks Elijah and apologies for the delay in acknowledging.
