Thought some of you might find this interesting.
Glen Thrasher, one of the founders of Cat Power, talks about the early years in Atlanta and New York, and his friendship with Chan. Good stuff.
Scroll down to the december 26th entry. Leave a comment for him, if you're so inclined.

Reading this is like finding golddust for me personally. Ive searched the internet high and low for info on Chan's time in Atlanta and have never found too much (except the fact that she worked in a pizza place and played with Glen and Mark).
Glen is right by the way, Chan does treat everybody like they are the most important person in the world. She really listens to you.:):):)

I actually posted that with you in mind, Moonpix. Thought you might get a kick out of it.
Glen was a friend of mine when I lived in Atlanta, and I knew, or saw, many of the bands he mentions.

That was an interesting read, it's interesting that no wave and noise jazz were influences/around at the time Cat Power was forming because i don't hear that influence directly in her music but it must have been a great time

I hear similarities between free jazz and her first two albums. The freeform approach she has in terms of vocals on those records isnt too dissimilar to the way a free jazz saxophonist would play.
The thing that always struck me about Chan though is that it sounds like she doesnt have any influences. I doubt she sat down and thought "oh Ill write something in the vein of..."
