so, i read this and today's PF review. maybe i'm the only person who doesn't really get all the SY comparisions. okay, maybe i hear a little in "poser psychotic", but there's got to be more interesting things to say about this record. like when it rocks, it ROCKS.

I don't think it distracts though from the record. It's pretty great. When Jered's not barking, he sounds like thurston. The guitars sound like SY in places. Maybe it's Agnello's production.

No, 9000. You aren't alone. Every mention of SY so far has left me scratching my head.

I don't think it sounds exactly like sonic youth. But I can hear touches. I don't think they're intentional.

Where Sonic Youth "rocks," I think this record "rocks and rolls."

I've never made the connection b/w The Ponys and Sonic Youth, but damn if the Ponys lead dude doesn't sound like Thurston Moore on "Poser Psychotic," not to mention the SY-like guitar sounds.

For the record, I listened to Celebration Castle while running late last evening and it finally made sense to me. Hopefully the new one won't take as long to click.

It's different than the first two records. I also hear some jesus and mary chain, pavement, dinosaur jr, pixies, stones roses a little maybe or that manchester sound. This album is the equivalent of a worn pair of comfortable jeans, or action slacks. It's like they cherry-picked the good parts of the stuff I grew up with.

'bout time, pabost..!

i definitely heard and thoroughly enjoyed the hell/varlaine influence on laced in romance, and to a lesser extent, celebration castle.

yah, good show. just wish they would have played longer as they really started to heat up towards the end there.

can't say i was feelin' the black lips. reminded me of a band that would play the frats at my alma mater. and the BL fans who left before the ponys hit the stage: lame.
