not very soon or never. Usually it helps if we've actually heard the band in question.

It's Stellastarr*
It was just a silly question. It's a band from NYC, they released an EP "Somewhere Across Forever" on Tiswas Records. It sounds awesome to me (the song "Somewhere Across Forever") and I thought it would be great if they were on the Matador roster. But who cares really?

Wow, Gerard. All the NYC bands have been breaking in London before the do in US lately, and you haven't heard of them? You must be busy with that cricket tourney.

yeah, you're right, every one of the NY based bands that has "broken" in London (!) have been so fucking fabulous, I should probably stop whatever lame method I use to learn about music and just move back to NYC as soon as possible.

Whatever. I'm no more obliged to know about this band than you are to know about every artist I like. But I appreciate all the suggestions (except for this one).

if the band in question are already on the Tiswas label and you've already managed to find out about them, what purpose would it serve for them to be on Matador? I know you think it would be cool and that's nice enough, I suppose...but we've been doing this record label thing for a little while and we've sorta established our own criteria (loose though it may be) for what we like, what we don't and how we manage to learn about music over time. If you're genuinely interested in helping this band become known, send us (or preferably someone else with a smaller roster) some music....but posting something like "when will Matador sign Peg & The Wooden Legz?" isn't gonna make it happen any faster.
