I realize they're already quite well-known. I'm just wondering what the other members on this board thinks of them.

I personally think they make amazing music although they can get quite pretentious at times but that's just a small flaw compared to the actual music...

they're fantastic, and the nay-sayers be damned.

Sure, they're great.

Has anyone else noticed the rapid decline in the amount of actual Matador content around here over the past two or three weeks?

I saw them play live at the 9:30 Club back in March and it was a great show (Black Dice aside). They played for almost 2 hours and then performed all of the Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada EP as an encore. I was a little worried that the sound would suck since there were so many instruments on stage, but the 9:30 Club did a damn good job of layering the instruments out.

All of independent music is pretentious...just because nine people in one band are doesn't take away from their power.

They're truly incredible live. Saw them for the first time at the Warsaw back in April and in between songs, while it was quiet, someone shouted from the back of the floor "YOU GUYS ARE BREATHTAKING!" ... perfectly said. They ended with this song where the drummer was playing while weaving through the crowd ... got on stage only as it ended. Very cool films behind them as well....

I also saw them live for the first time 2 weeks ago at the "Cabaret Sauvage" in Paris. Wonderful set in a wonderful place. I adore their music despite being a little bit disappointed by their last album...

I see nothing wrong with Yanqui...

Oddly enough, I prefer their albums to their live show.

Dont get me wrong, the live show was incredible. I saw them twice here at the end of March and both shows were amazing...

The music is just so intense though, on the level that I prefer it being played at my discretion, as opposed to experiencing this mind-altering piece of art in front of your eyes, in any mood, surrounded by hundereds of bored trend-followers and a bunch of real fans.

I know that sounds incredibly pretentious, I just think I prefer the music on record.

I don't know, I feel like something's missing... Maybe I miss the recorded voices or ambient sounds...

You know that saying "it takes one to know one?" Anagrammy's the bored trend-follower to end all bored trend-followers.

Maybe I don't hang out at this board enough but is there some kind of ongoing feud between you two that I should be aware of?

I dont hate Paul...

Paul hates me, Tinobeat hates me, the FMBB hates me.
Its been that way for years, its a comforting reliability.

Im not a bored trend-follower....but describing one is a hard task, I saw them at the GYBE show, Thats all I know.

I don't hate you, I just can't resist making fun of you often. Its really a problem...

maybe its because you remind me of myself when I was your age (not so long ago), but with a bit more hubris, so you actually say all the dumb things I would have said but was too shy and afraid of bullies... and I'm not into playing the martyr, which you have down pat..

not to say I don't say dumb things now.

yes, much better to be old and tolerantly and benevolently condescending...

options for a response:
if that was meant as a jab:
sure, if you take my post as being one that's completely serious and not meant in a lighthearted way at all.

and also, basically what I mean was that the shit I make fun of anagrama for is shit that I was (and in some cases still am) guilty of, so chalk it up as self-loathing if you'd like.

besides, I'm about 4-5 years older than anagrama at most, hardly enough to be an "elder," and so my pulling of age rank was kind of a joke.

if that wasn't meant as a jab:
*silent nod and half-smile while thinking "huh, I wonder if that was a jab or not..."*

general:
Its a message board, folks, nothing serious. for all I know anagrama and I could be best friends in real life while people I like here could be the most annoying people ever in real life. I have no hate here...

nothin but love, folks! sometimes I'm a cranky bastard though.

and to steer this ship back on-topic:
The first time I heard GY!BE I was pretty blown away, and promptly got the first LP (crushed pennies inside! awesome!) and the "Slow Riot..." 12"
I dug 'em a bunch, saw them play at the Middle East Upstairs (how did they fit 9 people onto that stage! yow!) to an audience of 120 max, felt really special, bla bla bla..

then it hit me... I just didn't care anymore. Its weird, all of a sudden the self-importance and kind of stifling lack of musical vocabulary of that band overwhelmed that initial wonderful escapism of listening to them, and just like that, it was over between me and that band. oh well...
