Hey all, I'm doing an interpretation of the song "Ice Water", and I was wondering if anyone could lend me a hand on their thoughts about the song's meaning. Please, even if you've only heard it once.... respond by adding a follow-up to my thread!

I don't think it has ONE meaning, songs never do. But I guess it could be about when you're not being happy about yourself but not giving a damn either. When you feel like everything is turned uppsidedown and that there is nothing you could do about it, except drinking ice water. (when your drunk etc.)

'Ice Water' is my favorite Cat Power song and I can't even figure out all the words (I've seen the internet lyrics and I think they are wrong). If anyone has the words-- please post!

To me, the song identifies some of our personal weaknesses and explores the depths of despair and hopelessness if we rely on others to solve our problems. We cannot rely on the shallow attempts of others to solve our problems (in the song, the solution to an overwhelming feeling of emptiness is to drink ice water).

Though sad, the song makes me feel really good. It gives me the feeling that we must empower ourselves to become self-reliant and also to accept our personal shortcomings. The song makes me want to really connect with people, dig under the surface, and be more compassionate.
