Hi guys, I was the person responsible for moonpix.com. I loved the site, but unfortunately I started an online business that took me away from being able to run it and had to close it down. Well fast forward a few years later, and I've just sold my business and so have the time and freedom to put another site back up.
I'd like to do it a bit differently this time, and have the site be devote to female singer/songwriters in general. It will be a community site that will allow people to upload article links, bios, photos, live mp3s, etc related to an artist. At first I will have about 15 singer/songwriters including Cat Power, Stina Nordenstam, Scout Niblett, Shannon Wright, Laura Veirs, Lisa Germano, Kristin Hersh, Joanna Newsom, Jesse Sykes, Jana Hunter, Emily Haines, etc. The lineup of artists won't aim to be comprehensive, just choosing the "best" of current female singer/songwriters as determined by me and the community. I'll start with all my Cat Power photos, live mp3s, etc and then let the community help to build the rest of the site.
Also, my plan is that whenever someone submits live mp3s they are automatically placed together in a podcast.
(Matador folks, if you have a problem with naming other artists, feel free to edit them out. I just want to give an idea of the scope of the site. I won't be making any money on the site, so there is no profit motive here.)
Now a few questions:
Unfortunately I lost the domain name moonpix.com. Anyone have any ideas for a domain name? Also, does a site like this currently exist? I don't think it does, and it would be nice to give an outlet to fans of smaller artists that don't really have fan sites but who are great songwriters.
Also, I think some fans of my old site might be afraid I'll pull the rug out on them again. That site was the first community site I ever built, and frankly I didn't really know what I was doing. This time I'll be allowing for other administrators, etc to run the site. And since much of the content will be uploaded by the users, I won't need to be around for the site to live and breathe and grow.
Anyway, thoughts are appreciated and hopefully Matador folks won't mind me posting this thread.
