Oh, and i met this american girl who was pretty cool (Hi Ona). i had a satisfying kfc too. If you love your chicken's you'll neuter and spray them, then cook them and give them to me when i'm drunk lol.
Anyone catching my drift here?!

Show was a grower... it started pretty well and just steadily got better and better. Setlist was extensive and the crowd was great - still a high quota of people talking but then it's the same whenever i see artists like CP. Great day all round... got hammered in the Junction Tavern and i too had a kfc... in fact, i had two. Hell yeah.

And a hair-tied-back Cat... sweet. Ha, ha, ha!!

This is how it went down folks.

Two support acts. I have no idea who the first one was but I think he was pissed 'cause he pulled a John Otway manoveur after the first number by falling arse over shit over a monitor. They were pretty decent though. I was so excited when Dexter "real music personified" Romweber walked on and played a rockin set with his sister on the drums. I never ever thought I would get to see him and Im so grateful to Chan for bringing him to the UK with her this time. Real hard garagey rockathon.

Chan opened her set with an amazing bluesified take on "Naked If I Want To." The band was real tight and totally on the money. Most of the set was cover versions which I believe will be on the next album. I coldnt recognise most of them but she did an incredible rendition of "I've Been Loving You too Long" as well as a really unique version of "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. She also played a song that she introduced as "Dark End of the Street" as well as a full band version of "Lord Help" by Jesse Mae Hemphill." There was also an jaw droppingly good song that began with the line "hush now" but Im not sure what its called or if its original material. Id love to know whats its called and if she's going to put it out. Its definitely one of her best covers if its a cover and if its an original its just yet more proof that she's a totally unique and amazibgly talented writer.

If the name Dirty Delta Blues Band and the prsence of one Judah Bauer (ex Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) doesnt give it away I shall tell you - the music was very very bluesy. A lot of it had that cool languid feel to it that lots of people associate with blues but as the set continued it got more driving with really hard hitting versions of "Could We" and "I Can't Get No (Satisfaction)." For anybody who's ever had the pleasure of seing the Dirty Three live Ill let you know that Jim's drumming style is different for this music. In the Dirty Three he basically plays ambient, atmospheric parts but in this band he's driving the songs along with heavier beats.

Id love to be able to go into more detail and give y'all a clearer image of want went down but unfortunately I didnt recogise most of the covers she played.

Thankyou Chan once again for an experience that goes beyond a night out.:)

EDIT: Ive found out that the song bginning "hush now" is a song by Nina Simone called "Don't Explain."

I think thats just a bit of poetic license on behalf of the journalist that wrote it.

Ive found out that this band is a New York band called The Child Ballads (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=93065725), the new band of Stewart Lupton who used to be in Jonathan*Fire Eater.

I saw you. I thought you were a weird bugger. You kept shouting "Chan Chan" loads of times like obsessively. What do you think she's going to think of somebody doing that?

I know this is the Cat Power board and everything so certain allowances have to made and Im a fan and would never criticise anybodys fandom but even all considering that Im still willing to call out people who behave like that.
