Is there any chance Matador will be reissuing any other older LD stuff? A copy of their first album went on eBay just recently for over $100! On top of that, from the pix it appeared to be a CDR. The Cavalry of Light is excellent and I definitely want more but a Benjamin for a CDR is more than I'm willing to spend in good conscience.

We do plan to issue that album at some point, though I think portions of it will be re-recorded.

We won't be releasing the split 7" of 'The Song of Impossible Occurrences' (other side is a Devendra Banhart project), though a new recording of this song will be available as a bonus track on iTunes, and also I think a B-side on the Rough Trade single of 'Open Your Heart,' out now in the UK. However, the single is still available if you search around.

Amazing sleeve artwork all around of course.

Rough Trade lists the "Open Your Heart" CD and 7" as such:

1. Open Your Heart
2. Oh No (As performed by Colin Meloy)
3. Chiquitita (on CD version only)

but like Patrick said, finding the split 7" shouldn't be too difficult.

What's up with LD? Surely they've not gone the way of the sabretooth guppy?

They're presently listed on the Matador alumni roster, and I'm pretty sure that since Ron Rege (the drummer) and Becky Stark ended their romantic relationship earlier this year, the band is now pretty much defunct. Becky was last seen providing backup vocals for both She & Him and The Decemberists, so maybe someone can go see one of those bands and ask her what's up.

Hopefully she'll get a new project up and running and we'll hear some more original music from her at some point.

LD did a version of "Purple Rain" on that 25th anniversary tribute to Purple Rain that SPIN put out last month. http://www.spin.com/prince
