Did they just take a break or are they disbanded for good?
Gone for good. We are left with two good bands though, the Jicks (starring Stephen Malkmus) and the Preston School of Industry (with Spiral Stairs). We have lost one great band but gained two in its place.

Malkmus has said that they will probably get back together but they will never record any new material.
