Great time last night. I was very happy that I sold my Flaming Lips ticket to go see the New Pornograhers.

I knew it was going to be a good night. I had gotten in touch with the band through Mint Records (Thanks Yvette) to see if they were down with me bringing taping equipment in. No problems at the door at all. The Gothic Theatre is revoltingly taper friendly. The only other better place to tape IMO is the Fox in Boulder.

As I walked in one of my favorite albums was playing (chocolate and cheese by Ween). They played the whole thing, which was wonderful...but then they played it again! Then the first band went on...Ween again...Second band...Ween again...New Pornographers...Ween again. I think they played it 2.5 times. Maybe next time I go to a show at the Gothic I will bring them a copy of The Mollusk.

So the first band Otion was tolerable. Barely. I've seen worse. Add a guitar and maybe it would have been better (keys, bass and drums only).

Organ was pretty good. Sounded like a female version of the Smiths a bit (at least the singing did). They were fun to watch. Good tunes. One of the better openers I've seen lately.

Finally at 11pm the New Pornographers hit the stage. They played what I consider to be nearly the perfect length set. About 90 minutes. The only thing I would have added is another song to the encore. One song encores don't do it for me. 2 or 3 songs is what I prefer.

Anyway, I had a great time. Great crowd. Lots of audience to band and band to audience banter. The band did a pretty good job of ragging on Avalanche fans (which they deserve). Someone started refering to everyone in the band by their instrument. That went on throughout the set. Funny.

Okay, Here's the setlist:

1. The Electric Version
2. End of Medicine
3. The Laws Have Changed
4. Mystery Hours
5. The Slow Descent into Alcholism
6. The Brown Speakers
7. July Jones
8. Jackie
9. The Fake Headlines
10. Ballad of a Comeback Kid
11. Mass Romantic
12. Testament To You In Verse
13. The Body Says No
14. Miss Teen Word Power
15. It's Only Divine Right
16. The New Face of Zero and One
17. Execution Day
18. Letter From An Occupant
ENCORE:
19. Action (Def Leppard cover)

Wow. Must've been a pretty rad show. Are you gonna be uploading the show at acid casualties by any chance? I'd love to hear it.

I still need permission from the band to post it. If I get it I will add it to www.indierocklive.com. The mp3 section on acidcasualties.com is going to be reduced to 1 show max after they are done touring for this album. I'd rather concentrate on something that will allow a broader range of recordings to be shared.
