Anybody else go? Any thoughts on the setlist? I was shocked and not in a good way. She is a great singer and a solid performer but it was not what I was looking for from a show, particularly a $30 show.

i could have lived w/ some material from _You Are Free_ or prior, but overall i thought it was an excellent show (albeit brief...damn you, sunday night dance idiots).
the band sounded great; i thought her vocal mix could have been a bit less muddy.
i'd not seen her since '97; she's certainly got a lot more command of the stage now.

I don`t know your complaints, but the Avalon isn`t exactly a particularly good venue. I probably wouldn`t have even bothered to see her there.

This seems to be blighting a lot of the Delta band shows, including the one I went to. I don't know who she's got doing the front of house mix but whoever it is I hope she doesnt have them again.
When I saw her in London she put on a great performance but the sound was just shit.

i could do w/o the gestapo-esque security @ avalon, but for boston venues, there's not many places i can think of which have better sightlines and sound (if the Paradise didn't have the large center pole, it might be tops, but the lighting isn't as good).

I`ve never been particularly impressed with the sound at the Avalon, but what really gets to me, besides the security, is the fact that shows never start on time, and then everyone must be cleared out by 10PM so that they can open the place up for the night club. It`s ridiculous.
I remember one time seeing the Pixies there and trying to buy merch after the show and getting kicked out of the place by security while waiting to buy merch. The place is absolutely ridiculous.

good point about the enforcement of the end times....chan's show barely clocked in at 65 min, and there was no encore. no merch table, either. had to clear out for the gay dance night, woot woot.
then again, i don't necessarily mind early shows on sunday nights.

aye, that's me.
figured that on the Matador board, another TFUL282 fan might have beaten me to that username, but it was free.

sorry to not agree with you but Chan deserves more than 30$, no matter what she sings. I spent much more to get to that last concert this week, like almost 200$ for the hotel and everything, but I would not pay one dollar to see her favorite singer Dylan, go figure why. He was there at the same festival.

but it seems kind of odd to me to do shows and play almost none of her own, previously released material (I think two songs). I may have missed that she would be primarily previewing new material and doing covers, and if I did, shame of me for complaining. Overall, I left very disappointed and will likely skip her next time through Boston.

Don't you know anything about the course of Cat Power history? Chan just does whatever the heck she wants and it works, nobody can argue with her cause the sales and crowds have always been there, ever-increasingly.
And it's never boring, even this high-end karaoke kick she's on is really fresh somehow and funny and sweet. You know you love it!!

I understand you and thought of that too for a second but then realized this is the same Chan, this is life, change is good, we just have to deal with it and it cant become worse because she must know what she's doing and that's what she likes to do or she couldn't do something that she doesn't like anymore and we would miss her presence more if she wasn't there than just missing some of her songs, if that makes sense.
