It seems very few people realize Mogwai has a new LP coming out in less than a week.

Odd...

<---starts the hype machine on various message boards.

maybe, just maybe, because there's already a negative hype for it.

I don't know much about Mogwai, and, although I'm embarassed to say so, have been turned off to them due to some of their obnoxious fans. Still, I listened to the mp3 available and thought it was really beautiful. I'm excited to hear some other stuff.

well, i've already been hyped up for the album since i got the japanese import a few weeks back. i've pretty much listened to the entire album at least once a day. can't wait for the vinyl format to be released AND definitely can't wait to see them play in L.A. next week! whoo hoo!

I wonder which new songs they've been playing live? I already know how "Hunted by a Freak" and "Golden Porshe" sound live, I just wonder how some of the new albums, shall we say, breezier tracks sound live? has anyone seen 'em across the pond or something?

well i haven't actually seen 'em, but they have been playing all of the tracks except "moses.." and "boring machines..."

if ya wanna check out how they sound, get the new peel session off soulseek......
and they all sound great.

Album is out in Europe. I also saw them live a week ago. For the old stuff, they played a few songs from C.O.D.Y. (christmas steps and others) and I think just one from rock action (2rights make 1 wrong).

this sort of thing can be found amongst the huge volume of mogwai detritus at:

incidentally, the official site says the Brooklyn show on 16th June will be 'guitar-only' and warns punters to take their earplugs. anyone taping?!

Presumably this is because you saw them play those songs live last year? 'Hunted..' has altered a little because of the vocals, and 'Golden Porsche' has only been played at shows where they've had room on-stage for a cellist.

Some more info on the other songs can be found amongst my comments here:http://brightlight.youngteam.co.uk/eng/gig210503.php

while i'm dying to hear some of the new songs live esp Kids Will Be Skeletons, Ratts of the Capital, and Killing All The Flies, I definitely can't wait to hear (and hopefully they MIGHT play them according to the set lists at bl!) Ithica, Helicon 1, Mogwai Fear Satan, and My Father My King. I will have my earplugs in and enjoying the music in 8 days! WOO!

Saw them live a while back; especially Mogwai fear Satan was incredibly impressive - I'm glad I had the opportunity to hear it live once.

Perhaps I'm not reading enough of the right magazines or something *shrugs*.
