Hopefully I'll be able to elbow out the crowd rush for the requisite 2 copies they'll have at my local Best Buy. Of course those won't be put out until 500 copies of the latest Sum 81, 60 Cent or Blink 192 CD is on the shelf.

Quote from that link:
On 'Earthquake Glue', the group has finally reached full understanding of Robert Pollard's genius, and as a result this is by far one of their most cohesive and fully rocking albums. It is a great time to be around this band - one gets the feeling that they haven't yet put together the ultimate GBV album, but that this one is one of the closest ones so far.

Patrick, please excuse me for being cynical, but do you guys really believe this, or is this just record-label speak for "if you're a GBV fan you'll like it but if not it's not gonna change your mind"?

Our blurb for the upcoming GBV is not cynical (cynicism is soo 1992!) but it represents my and most of the Matador staff's view of the album.

I personally think Earthquake Glue is absolutely one of GBV's better abums, out of the 13 it would rank in the top half for sure. I think it is better than their last album, and that one was awesome! You might not agree with me but I think it sounds more personal, more interesting and challenging than say their last 3 or 4 albums. To my ears there is just more stuff going on - and it has more of a traditional GBV sound than recent albums.

If you are a GBV fan you will probably love the album. If you don't like the band after 13 albums I'm not so sure that anything they would come up with would satisfy you.

Yeah, I thought so. Well of course I'm gonna buy the album and am really looking forward to it (is the UK release date the same BTW?), I just wondered how good you really thought it was, and up in the top half is good enough for me, as is it being better than the last one, which I also loved.

Patrick, my only concern is that I wasn't blown away by the two released MP3's. I like the songs, I just can't say they're great. And unlike some fans I loved their last three CD's. I must have played UTAC over 100 times.

Both songs have this kind of sameness to them. My Kind of Soldier sort of reminds me of the song UTAC in that it's got that chugging rhythm guitar.

I'm sure I'll love the album but for now, I'm cautiously optimistic.
