I had heard a few of their songs before, but hadn't picked anything up by them... But yesterday at my local record store they had what looked like the whole My Dad is Dead catalog on vinyl... I ended up getting their first one "And He's Not Gonna Take it Anymore", and on first listen last night it was really good... What's their best album?

If pressed, I might say The Taller You Are, the Shorter You Get. Not all of his catalog is available on vinyl, BTW. I'm pretty sure the last few things have been CD only. The most recent is A Divided House from 2005.

The earlier albums can be downloaded here (http://mdid10.home.mindspring.com/sounds2.htm) if you want to hear them before buying.

Yeah I think it was just the 80's albums and one EP... But "The Taller You Are, the Shorter You Get" was definately there too. Thanks guys

For my money the two Scat full lengths ("Chopping Down The Family Tree" & "Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind" are the ticket, but HCI's recommendation of the "The Taller..." is good advice too.

Late to the party, but my fave is the double vinyl version of The Taller You Are... (this has two tracks not on the CD, plus the intro to "World on a String" which was cut from the CD). I think writing and musically this was the band's highest point.

I'm curious, Dave, why you rank Out of Sight... so highly. I like the album too, but I think the production sorta sinks the album, or at least it hinders the album, into sort of a sonic mush, especially compared to the two that preceded and followed it. It's really noisey, so I guess it differenciates itself from the rest of the catalogue. Well, that and it's the first full band record. And he dropped the band name on this album.

I absolutely love the guitar sound on that record.
