I don't know how many of you out there have made your way through the 100 unreleased-song opus that is 'Suitcase', but if you have, what are your thoughts?
I think it naturally is a little spotty at times & is overall a 'for completists only' affair, but songs such as "sing it out" ,"why did you land?", "shifting swift is a lift", "where i come from", and Power of Suck tunes "pink drink" & "pantherz" are definitely more than worthy contributions to GBV's top tunes list.

yes a lot of it is odd but definatly some radiant tracks on there. i like the ones you mention. and also most of the vocal/guitar only ones like raphael, my feets trustworty ex, the other version of time machines. i think disc 4 is the my favorite

Discs 2 and 4 are my faves...'Raphael', that's another great tune. I think some of the best solo guitar/vox only tracks on 'Suitcase' are just begging for full-band revivals...I heard a live rendition of 'Sing it out' on gbv web radio that was awesome.
I've also heard rumours of a sequel to 'Suitcase'...Lord knows they have the material for it.

When Suitcase first came out, it stayed in my changer for a long, long time. I rather listen to any disc from Suitcase than some of the recent FCS material.
Which disc is my fav from Suitcase? Hard to say with this one. There are too many great moments all over.
Pollard could take pieces and parts from Suitcase and re-record them to create a sensational album, but he would never do it. That would be a great GBV album to look forward to.
I've always liked just having suitcase there to buy when I need another GBV release- I mean there's so much stuff that there's always sometihng else to buy instead- the UK version would cost me 60 pounds which is a lot of money to me!

I love a lot of it, but let's face it, there's a reason these songs didn't make the grade. And we all know Bob likes to put out as much material as possible. That said there are some real gems interspersed between the Chain Wallet Bitch type material. CD 4 is my favorite.

Yeah, I definitely agree that a lot of 'Suitcase' could've stayed unreleased and it wouldn't have been any great loss....But man, there are some real gems in there. Only a songwriter as prolific as Pollard could stand to relegate those tunes to history...

I think My Feet's Trustworthy Existence has one of the best melodies I've ever heard, and I've never heard anything about it from anybody except for earlier in this thread. A grimly beautiful song.

yeah he sounds a bit exhuasted in that one, as he sings that 'live a wasted life' part. it's a nice song.

I've never looked at the lyrics for Suitcase. Does he say 'live a wasted life' for sure, or is it 'liver-wasted life'? I always thought it could be both, but I suppose the former is likelier.
