Hello Earthlings.

When you get a spare mo, please tell me about the Great LP you didn't buy, the one you missed, the one that got away. This could be from last year or from 1988 for all I care.

My contribution is 'The bed is in the Ocean' by Karate. I hang my head and apologise to Karate.

Bye from Richie in Manchester UK

If we missed it, how would we know it was great?

Don't worry Moon Pix. That impression was already forged by the Cat Power thread.

Leave Brit Alone!

That was such a strange case. The guy even got a mention on Radio 1 over here. I know, I was a work and it they played clips of the guy crying an a moaning over the airwaves.

Surprised me no end.

yeah, weird that the guy took a break from his Cat Power records long enough to record that clip...

why is it I place a perfectly decent message and its intercepted by seasoned wankers like you?

Asking people to tell them how great a record is that theyve never heard sets the surrealist bar pretty high for the rest of us doesnt it?

I couldnt even get over that with a ten foot pole.

Guys... guys. He asked about the great LP you didn't buy, not the great LP you never heard. Why all the agita? Calm, please.

okay, in the interest of actually trying to make this a productive thread instead of one where we bust someone's chops for some poor wording (on a message board, can you imagine?!), i'm going to intuit what the original poster meant and say: boxer by the national, which would have totally slipped by me had i not been in a basically empty bar around 3:30 in the morning, very drunk, listening to my friend dj "fake empire" while i was catching up with another close friend who i hadn't spoken with in person in about six months. i got the album from emusic a week later and have played it consistently since then (probably 2 months ago, i think?).

-edit-

i guess alternatively i could say that i never really bothered with the buzzcocks until i was in the radio station office at my undergrad (i was music director at the time) and i heard the dj in the next room playing (what i later came to find out was) "why can't i touch it?" i probably never would've bothered with them had i not opened the door to ask him what he was playing. and oddly enough, "why can't i touch it?" is far from one of my favorite songs by them.

thanks Patrick, but my 2-pronged abuse will probably have an answer for that! Oh and bailterspace sounded like late 80s UK indie - probably more like the Telescopes than Oasis. However there is a track on one of Matador's comps that does sound like early Oasis!! This is my opinion!

they are on beggars, so it shouldn't be hard to find info on them. and the album this year got a lot of really positive reviews (which heightened the sense of nearly getting away, ya know, since i was hardly paying attention), so, again, it shouldn't be hard to find a lot of people talking about them. but the song i mentioned above, "fake empire," can be streamed from paper thin walls: http://www.paperthinwalls.com/singlefile/item?id=916

Opinion aside, the problem is that you keep comparing Bailter Space to bands that appeared years after them.

I imagine this thread being about records that you passed on buying until it was too late. Like how I held "Headdress" by Sunburned Hand of the Man in my hands every time I went to the record shop a few years ago but always put it back, until it was just showing up on ebay for $50 and I was bummed. Mostly that I could have had a few months with an OK record and then made some money off it, haha...

I have countless records like that, though, that I kept putting off buying and then boom, they're OOP and $$$ and I'm :( :( :(

You mean you don't have countless records like that... :p

not so much 'keep comparing'...i tried to justify my Oasis comment..wish I hadn't mentioned them now...(bearing in mind I dislike Oasis)

I saw Sunburned Hand... at Green Man festival last year - very entertaining! The singer certainly has some negative energy that works well in a live format...

Also, has anyone seen the Arcwelder footage on the T&G website? They are one seminal band!!

Patrick
09-24-2007, 09:15 PM
Haven't seen Arcwelder, but I love one of their albums. Man, it would be weird to go back to it... I'm sure it sounds "incredibly '90s" now.

I don't think it's fair for people to criticize you over the Oasis comment - whether or not they postdate Bailter Space, if it reminds you of Oasis, it reminds you of Oasis!

There are no records I passed up that I wish I bought. There are, however, two records that I owned that were stolen at a party in the late '80s. I want them back, and anyone who is willing to get them for me will receive ample (non-monetary) reward. Originals only of course. They are:

- The Victims - Television Addict 7"
- The Partisans - Blind Ambition 7"

Thanks

There's a difference between "sounds like" and "reminds."

Funny, I bought those two records off some kid in Brookline back in elementary school. I always wondered what the "PROPERTY OF PA TOUCH AND DIE" scratched into the labels was all about...
