C'mon, someone from this board must've been to one of the shows by now. I'll be in Philly and Arlington.

I went to the Port Washington show on Friday. What a blast! The audience yelling out requests, comments, questions, etc, while the band seemed to be having fun with the format.
Killer cover of Love's House is Not A Hotel.

Anyone have any idea of the setlist from the Philly show? I was there but I need to fill in some blanks.

Thanks so much. Great show. I ended up with Ira's handwritten lyrics to Love Train. Nice addition to the two setlists I got earlier this year.

For shits'n'giggles, here's the setlist from the Alexandria, VA show the next night:
the weakest part
the crying of lot g
deeper into movies
let's save tony orlando's house
damage
cherry chapstick
circus strongman runs for pta president (fair)

did i tell you

story of yo la tango
sugarcube
stockholm syndrome
my hearts' reflection

props were given to david fair, bob odenkirk, dario argento, and maynard sipe (hey mr. hci!). ira read the lyrics for "i hate hate" off his laptop. i think georgia was reading my mind when she started playing that last song. an excellent evening of music and fun.

M. Ward was the special "stage-warming" guest last night in Portland. He played a crowd pleasing/rousing, short set that included covers of "Spoonful" and "Lonesome Me".
Couldn't possibly relate YLT's set list for the show (coming down with a cold--made me too drowsy to do have a reliable memory). These things, I do remember:
they played 3 songs before opening things up for requests
they finished the evening off with a tribute to "the late, great Porter Wagoner" (beautifully, sad cover of "Satisfied Mind")
NRBQ's "Magnet", a Kinks tune (?), "Tried So Hard", "Emulsified", "Can't Forget", "Nuclear War" were some of the other covers played.
Ira asked everybody to check out the David Kilgour show that's happening tonight at Holocene.
The "storytelling" aspect turned out to be something the band wasn't really excited about. Lots of joking about on stage...no explanations of songs (that was ruled out early on by Ira).
Anyway, those are just a few of the details. A really lovely set (and night).

attended the 2nd nite late show in LA.
UNBELIEVABLE! seriously, this tour is NOT to be missed!
they played at this tiny venue and it felt like they were playing in your living room, just for you. i've never been to a show this intimate w/ rock legends this big. once in a lifetime oppty to be this up close and personal (unless you can afford to fly out to hoboken). so glad i didn't bother w/ hollywood bowl! ha! i had a huge, silly grin on my face for 2 hrs. :D def on my short list of all time fave shows.
the band was awesome, as always. from what i remember...(out of order/missing some)
- autumn sweater
- we're an american band
- drug test
- bad politics
- by the time it gets dark
- green arrow
- hot chicken #2
- tom courtenay (georgia)
- our way to fall (?)
- mr. tough
- a few byrds' covers
encore of 3 songs, final song being a slow version of cherry chapstick. my only wish is that they would have rocked out more (even tho it was an 'unplugged' show). would have loved for them to close out w/ the energy of the regular version.
as for the 'story telling' part of the show...loved the banter btwn the band. ira did most of the talking, w/ georgia & james breaking in now and then.
the only real disappointment was the the late night crowd! WEAK! (i had a feeling the band was a bit disappointed, too, but still good humored about it. i was embarrassed by all the annoying ppl/Qs...i wanted to apologize.) at moments, there was even some attitude going, ppl almost badgering them. (and this coming from an angeleno).
ira had to practically beg for ppl to ask Qs...but when they did, they blurted out half-intelligible things that left confused/bewildered looks on their faces. or ppl muttered out Qs like "who's your favorite action hero?" or "what'd you have for breakfast?" or worse..."where are you from?," "how'd you get your name?" so please...be forewarned...please do more than shout requests and ask something decent. you have YO LA TENGO right in front of you, goddamit! ;)
a couple of interesting moments...
- one of the lights over the stage exploded & sent glass raining down behind georgia...but like the professionals they are, they didn't miss a beat
- classic...this dude in the back yells out a request for FRIED CHICKEN #2!!!! HAHAHAH

The first show of the Boston double-header was a laid-back blast. The crowd started out with some pretty weak questions/comments, but got better as the show went on, and the band played a whole bunch of requests...

I was at both shows last night. I can't pick a favorite but the second one found a very more lively crowd, hollering and really getting into it.
I was very happy they ended up taking my request for Detouring America With Horns and playing it at the end. Someone requested it during the second show, but they had to pass. I yelled "Thank you by the way" and Ira made a comment of "Someone mustered enough money to go to both shows. You thought it was obnoxious because we already played it, but now it's worse because he's here to rub in."
Tom Courtenay (Camp YLT version)
I Should've Known Better (AMAZING version)
Starry Eyes (Roky Erickson)
Our Way To Fall
Madeline (a response to a question of speaking the first verse)
On The Right Track Now (Roky Erickson cover from Dump's A Plea For Tenderness)
(unkown cover - one of the lines said 'it's like social sciences / it's like ground control' .... it matters to me)
The Weakest Part
Nuclear War
Cherry Chapstick
Sugarcube
Somebody's In Love (Sun Ra/The Cosmic Rays)
The Readymades
The Crying Lot G
Autumn Sweater (great rendition - Georgia sharing the chorus)
Story Of Yo La Tango

Season Of The Shark
Love (Robyn Hitchcock)

It's funny, because the new Rogue Wave album was produced by Roger Moutenot.
I didn't get a chance to, but I wanted to ask a) how to pronounce his last name and b) would the band ever consider making another record without him. not that i don't like what he does with them, just a change of pace to see what happens

Maybe the stock market one a bit more. :) Nothing wrong with a little needling. Loved the fact that whatever the question was, the band was able to pull something fairly funny out of it.
Yeah, the Roe v. Wade mistake was classic. Also loved James' response to the "What did you mean 'you wrote a couple Bob Dylan songs?'". Well played.

i believe that it was ex-Boston Globe music critic Steve Morse who said that. he was sitting next to Jim Sullivan.

Last night was fantastic, ending with an absolutely amazing cover of "The Flowers In The Forest" with Metal Mountains joining YLT on stage.
