Anyone have recommendations for first purchases for a fool like me who hasn't yet got into NP?

um, buy Mass Romantic? I don't have Electric Version yet, so I couldn't tell you if it's better or worse. (sorry Matador)

I must say I prefer Electric Version to Mass Romantic quite a bit. Perhaps I just need more time with MR, but I love EV, not bad song in the bunch.

I'd say that starting with Electric Version would not be a bad move at all. You should surely check out Destroyer's "This Night" as well.

Well, okay, I know that wasn't very helpful. I originally wrote something more detailed... and needlessly convoluted. Let me just put it this way: I listened obsessively to Mass Romantic when I first got it--sometimes twice a day... or more. I eagerly anticipated the arrival of Electric Version, though I worried that it could never live up to the near perfection of its predecessor--the dreaded "sophomore slump." I'm happy to report that EV is just as good as MR. Why buy these albums? Incredible songwriting, incredibly catchy songs, and the densely layered wall of sound--intricate layers of guitars, vocals, keyboards . I could make hopelessly inadequate comparisons to other groups, but why bother?

I think Mass Romantic has the better songs, but Electric Version sounds better, like they're a better band.
Check out Carl Newman's first band, Zumpano. Man, I love that group.
i think perhaps I'll go with ummmmmm........ MR and EV? I'll splurge. and if I have any money left, yes I will check out his new band.... at least I'll listen to it.....
thanks guys (see i told you forums didn't have to be scary prove-you're-a-real-fan websites....)
