"Earthquake Glue" as you all know comes out in just about 1 month (August 18th).
The first edition (which will be the entire first pressing - over 20,000) will consist of a numbered digipak with topcap, containing a limited edition sticker.
Furthermore, 25 copies out of the first edition will contain a "golden ticket" entitling the winner to a free copy of the "Hardcore UFOs" 5-CD+DVD box set when that comes out later this fall.
We'll have complete details on the "Hardcore UFOs" project momentarily, but suffice it to say for now that it will be the definitive GBV collection.
Good luck -
Patrick

i'll assume this is the first 20,000 of the CD version, yes?
I guess I'll banish hopes of winning the boxed set then...
:) you can always count on me to gripe about CD-only bonuses. when are the record buyers going to get treats? hidden 7"ers, bonus stickers, anything!

Yes tinobeat, CD-only I'm afraid.
The artwork looks at least twice as cool on the LP, and there's a nice printed (very cool actually) dustsleeve... but that's the best we can do!
I now realize that we should have ONLY put the golden tickets into the vinyl...
Patrick
Patrick, what about the UK version? Does this mean I have to order from matador direct and get it late?

Is this just another sick, evil and despicable ploy to take all of my money and sell me something that I already own, in a nice and newly packaged form with a "bonus DVD?"

Will Luna have copies of the first 20,000?
Patrick
07-21-2003, 08:05 PM
Luna will indeed have copies - it will be more than 20K - it will be whatever the first pressing is -
- and unfortunately the golden ticket is limited to copies sold in the US and Canada.

bitterfruit,
To answer your implied question, we have decided to avoid the late-in-the-release-cycle value-add gambit in future.
But how can we be selling you something you already own when "Earthquake Glue" is not out yet?

Also note that the price is especially phine right now if you pre-order from the Matador Store (with apologies to Ladt, who is probably out expensive shipping):
http://www.matadorrecords.com/store
Preorder discounts off our already-low prices for Guided By Voices and Pretty Girls Make Graves.

I think he's referring to the Boxed set, Patrick. He's implying there will be no unreleased material. He'd be wrong, right?

Pre-order brother, you know what I mean. I just don't want to buy stuff that I already own.
I'm so bullish on Earthquake Glue that I've already issued a "strong buy rating" on future EG related releases.

More dirt on "Hardcore UFOs" (and NOTHING is set in stone yet):
-- one disc live
-- one disc unreleased
-- one disc Matador A's and B's
-- one disc Greatest Hits, chosen by Bob/
-- one disc 'Forever Since Breakfast'
-- one DVD viz. 'Watch Me Jumpstart' expanded w/ all the videos
and a perfect-bound booklet a la 'Slanted Luxe'
it's gonna be hot

hey Patrick--thanks for the updates!! just had some quick questions:
1. Is the B-sides disc going to include all Matador B-sides, or is there a certain selection?
2. Would there be a better chance of getting a "golden ticket" (not that I'm expecting one AT ALL) from Matador as opposed to LUNA, or does that totally not matter?
3. About the first pressing, will the numbering be random, or depend upon when you order (i.e., first orders=lower numbers)?
4. A short one--how many videos does GBV have? :)
5. Do you know about how much this set will cost (ballpark of course)?
sorry for all the questions, I just had a lot of unknowns that I was hoping might be clarified. Thanks so much. Later--

You got me by the nads you bastards. And again, I lose.
Thanks for the prompt answer patrick, so does that mean the UK version will not be the limited version, or does that just mean I won't be able to get the golden ticket?

Whatever the cost, this is priceless. Don't sing it, bring it etc.

(hope I didn't duble-post -- I bumped the enter key...)
I'd tallied up all of the Matador non-album trx and came up with this list (altho someone on the fan-moderated gbvbb mentioned that the Japanese-released trx were prob'ly not licensed by matador). Anyway, from this list, which of these does would anyone guess to be on, or would like to see on, the A- & B-side disc of the box set? Am I missing any?

Jeez, I really unlocked the floodgates.
Be patient people - there will be an official announcement coordinated with gbv.com and Postal Blowfish sometime in the next few weeks, with the artwork, complete tracklisting and all the other news on this project. Stuff is still getting finalized, and I jumped the gun a bit here.
As for the "Earthquake Glue" questions:
-- the digipaks will be numbered in order of production, not in order of shipment. So it will be pure luck as to where the lowest numbers end up.
-- Ladt, I'm not sure whether the UK version will be numbered or not. I'll have our UK office get back on that one
-- captain, the distribution of golden tickets will be entirely random, done at the manufacturing plant - the chance of getting one through Luna or Matador should be equal
All the Box Set questions will wait until the official announcement with gbv.com.
Best
Patrick

I nag when I am teased.
Yeah, I think we all got a little over-excited.

Well, I for one would love to order the new GBV album from the matador online store -- but you can't check out! I can enter my address, but when I click the "contine" link, nothing happens. Tried it in IE and Mozilla, no luck.

You might check to see if you "allow cookies" or not. The Matador store and many other shopping cart sites create cookies with what you are ordering (no personal information) so that it can easily pass it to the checkout page. If you don't have cookies enabled, you'll never be able to do shit.

'S no problem, I like hearing from people and answering questions (and asking them). Especially in writing.
Ike, did you manage to check out successfully once you enabled cookies?
Patick
Speaking of questions, did you find out whether I'll be able to get the digipak in the UK patrick? Thanks.

Dude, I definitely have cookies enabled in both of my browsers. I am 100% sure of that. Something else is wrong.
Are you getting any orders through that site?

Dude, I ordered Earthquake Glue from Matador Records site on Friday and had no problems. IE6 on a Windows 2000 system.

Dude, maybe you're behind someplace that doesn't allow secure connections, ie https. Or maybe behind a proxy?

Ike, write to matadorhelp@insound.com and let me know if they can't solve the problem.

Hi Patrick,
I found the golden ticket! I found the golden ticket! Woooooo! I want an oompa-loompa now, daddy!
But seriously, I did find one. I know the ticket has the mailing address, with "Attn : Golden Certificate", but what do I need to include with the certificate? Obviously my home address, but do I need to include the digipak number as well?
Also, if I mail the golden ticket in now, when should I expect to receive the box set?
I don't think I've ever won anything so cool in my life. :)
