I was listening to UTBUTS last night and thinking how cool it was back in the day to have Tobin songs interspersed with Bob songs and it got me thinking ... do you think GBV albums are stronger and maybe more thematically cohesive now with exclusively Bob songs or did you prefer the stylistic variances we used to get with two song writers in the band and a few amazing Tobin gems sprinkled throughout all the Bob stuff? I don't really have an answer. I certainly love the current lineup and obviously Doug, even without writing any GBV songs (except I Am a Tree), seems to be the most important member of the band ever other than Bob and I think he's really largely responsible for their current sound. So I don't know, just thinking aloud....

I agree with the importance of Doug, but I'm not sure you can compare the two, because they both brought something extra to the band, but in different ways. Hang on, that wasn't your point was it, personally Tobe's songs always fit in really well thematically anyway, even though the styles are quite different.
