So I thought I would start a thread about Montreal to get more of you guys to come visit!
I just read that the Casa Del Popolo and La Sala Rossa family just added a hotel that is situated right over Casa. The cheapest room goes for 30$ and you get free access to their kitchen and any shows going on that night. Casa Del Popolo has to be my favorite venue in Montreal; the vibes it gives off are incredible.

My favorite record stores are Cheap Thrills, Phonopolis, L'Oblique and Encore.
Cheap Thrills is pretty much an institution in Montreal, while Phonopolis just opened but has quickly found a spot in my heart. Phonopolis is run by members of Shapes & Sizes. Encore has an endless supply of interesting used vinyl and isn't too pricey either. I probably shop the most at Encore.

My old band played its last show ever at Casa Del Popolo, and we got drunk and then got driven to the crazy SeriPop loft where we stayed. Then we had weird french breakfast. That venue is definitely really really awesome.
I had a fun time in Montreal... jeez, that must have been some 5 years ago now..

Some of my favorite places to eat in Montreal (one of the North America's greatest food cities):
L'Express - St. Denis - just great, classic bistro
Schwartz's Smoked Meats - St. Denis - like it says - absolute heaven
Fairmount Bagels - like it says - better than anything in NYC
that place next to Fairmount that's super old style and does grilled baloney sandwiches
Au Pied de Cochon - rue Duluth - oh my god, some of the heaviest, gamiest food I've ever eaten, cosy packed wintertime vibe

That would be Wilensky's. It's a personal favorite.
For the best vegan or beef burgers in Montreal go to Patati Patata on Rachel and St. Urbain. Just above on the corner of Duluth you will find Santropol where the greatest sandwhich creations in the world can be found. They also have AMAZING coffee.

My favorite breakfast place is a little hole-in-the wall called Cosmos. It's been open forever and is home to the greasiest food imaginable. The hash browns are to die for.

Tino, if your new band ever decides to play a show in Montreal; I could setup a gig for you at Friendship Cove, which is the premiere art/music loft space in Montreal.

Another great bistro is Cagibi. It was formally known as Cafe Esperanza until they were forced to close a year ago. It just re-opened a few months ago with new owners, but little has changed. It also turns into a pretty cool hipster club at night during the weekends.
