Word. Whoever recorded this did a great job.

Is the band now L.A.-based?

cool. very looking forward to the album.

further down here, on a technological note:

may i suggest, respectfully, that you include metadata in promo files that you post up for the world to enjoy? i've noticed a pattern, perhaps on purpose, where you post files with such memorable titles as, "track 03" with no artist info, no nothing. shit, tell the world that you're matador records and you're giving away free stuff. anything. bad metadata is better than no metadata.

Wow, I'm usually a stickler for that sort of stuff, but as you might imagine I rarely download our mp3's. We'll def. be more thorough in the future.

i was going to compare it to forgetting to slap a label on a vinyl promo but figured i'd set off some sort of jihad here.

Then I'd just compare it to a test pressing. Ha!

What? No, no, no, we post all the metadata in iTunes and that should come encoded with the MP3. The Dead Meadow track didn't come with that? What others didn't come with it? It's something we always try to do, if we're screwing up here with the technology then we definitely need to know that.

the TNV mp3 wasn't tagged

this happened with the tnv and dead meadow free downloads, for sure. i usually update the data myself, so i can't entirely recall when this happened other times. i'll have to look through my files to see if i can find others.

Jeez, Elijah! that's WAAAY too many tags. I only fill in "Composer" on Classical stuff so I can sort that way and have the performer fill the "artist" tag, and I only use the "Disc __ of ___" tags on multi-disc sets because that tag actually alters the filename to include the disc number before the track number, which I don't need on single discs...

I get real OCD on that stuff too, though...

I get real OCD on that stuff too, though...I like to be able to sort by release date (hence the first part of the grouping field), and make smart playlists based on individual musicians, composers and/or producers (hence the comments field, the composer field, and the second part of the grouping field). The disc number field is admittedly superfluous, although the ripping program I use (http://sbooth.org/Max/) usually adds that in either way.

thanks for pointing this out. we definitely should be doing this on every mp3. the times new viking mp3 was fixed a few weeks ago.

dean (our new nick) starts tomorrow and this will be part of the curriculum.

any other website improvements / tips for dean...? fire at will.

i know the Cat Power promo download i got didn't have any tags, and seemed to have truncated versions of the songs too (though as i don't have anything else to compare it to, i'm not 100% positive)

For one LP? That doesn't sound correct - let me have Dean look at that.

Thanks Dean, that's helpful in terms of weighing up purchasing options.

It's probably cheaper for me to buy the vinyl here. BUT will European copies contain a d/l coupon?
