I don't know enough about any of these groups to make an impulse buy, but articles I read in the past interest me.

Firewater
Mascott
Sofa
Holly Golightly
Parts and Labour
Yume Bitsu

As a last question, where is the best place to start with Liquid Liquid and ESG?

Yume Bitsu are incredible. Their last album, The Golden Vessyl Of Sound on K is one of my favorite records from last year. Tripped out stuff, but very songy, with weird mythological lyrics, and some of the best sounding vocals in all of psychdom.

I recommend them highly. highly highly highly... The new project by Adam from YB, called [[Version]] is pretty great too. its no Yume, but great natheless..

Soul Jazz Records put out an amazing compilation of older ESG stuff called A South Bronx Story on CD and 2LP. Its worth the $18-20 it costs as an import. you can find it through Forced Exposure (http://www.forcedexposure.com) ...

ESG just put out a new record too, which is pretty badass, but I'd go for the ASBS set first.

Grand Royal put out a Liquid Liquid discography which has all three of their 12"ers on it and a short live set. I don't know how hard or easy it is to find that though. Try Other Music (http://www.othermusic.com). That's where I found it like 2 years ago (though I was at the store, but they might have it online).

Thanks, tinobeat. I'm glad you mentioned [[Version]] - though, isn't it spelled differently? - because I also meant to put them on the list. Add Silkworm as to-be-recommended, another band I forgot to add.

Silkworm I highly recommend, they have sort of a lower-key Pavement meets the better qualities of Fuck feel.

Holly Golightly is just annoying to me, I've heard a couple of their songs on a few promo comps, and they're all pretty hard to sit thru.

I have to mentally prepare myself to listen to an 11 minute track. The sun and the moon need to be perfectly aligned for me to be in the mood, but it is worth listening.

Actually, they are a she. Starting out in Billy Childish's Thee Headcoatees, she started releasing her own brand of acid garage beauty in 1995. The unfamiliar may recognize her appearance on the newest White Stripes record, singing with Jack and Meg on the album's final track. Fucking ace!

Really? Any 11 minute track? I just throw those on and let them play with the rest. If it's written well enough, you won't be able to tell how long it is.

I may agree with you again Paul. That makes two times so far. But I did say may, so who knows.

I can listen to 11 minutes of John Coltrane or The Microphones for instance with no problem. But I just can't seem to do 11 minutes of Yume Bitsu.

Yume Bitsu are, for lack of a better word, transcendent.

interesting, because I have a much easier time dealing with 11 minutes of Yume Bitsu than Coltrane. I love Coltrane, but that 11 minutes takes *listening* and is oh so rewarding for it, but I like to focus on it. then again, there's tons of different sounding coltrane. but if you take, say "Interstellar Space" and its long tracks, I have to be in the right mood to get through it.

Yume I just put on and let it do its thing, and I don't even notice the time's passed.

vesper, [[Version]] is spelled [[VVRSSNN]] on the CD and LP now, but when he first started playing as "Version" it was just that word. the spelling got weirder as he went along, and I have a hard time keeping up, so for simplicity, [[version]] is what I go with.

every time I hear a new Silkworm album, I go "meh, boring.." and then by the end of the year I'm in love. I love Tim Midgett's voice too.

Paul, any suggestions on a particular Holly Golightly album?

Also, what are the best Silkworm discs? They have quite a few...

"Firewater" is probably their best, but I think it's Out of Print?

Odd that one of the band's I'm looking for shares another's album title...

I think it's a sign...

I'd go with Singles Round-Up. It's a pretty varied assortment of styles and sounds, but still makes for a very cohesive record. Plus, there's a cover of "Box Elder" for those who might be interested.

Pavement again? Jeez, Paul. Save it for the Pavement thread, will ya?

You and your inane suggestions...
