someone said October a while ago, but if that was true, I think we'd have heard about it by now.

you guys like PSOI? Maybe you hear something I don't , but I find them kinda bland. Thoroughly uninteresting.

I look forward to the day where the board can have a post about either the Jicks or PSOI where someone doesn't feel the need to chime in with how much they dislike them.

Preston School of Industry, Spiral Stairs from Pavement's band.

PSOI=Preston School Of Industry

I agree with Johansen, it seems like every time they are brought up, people are almost offended. They aren't THAT bad.

Thank you sir. I've heard of Preston, but not heard them. When I listen and hate them, I'll be sure to come back here and complain.

I loved the PSOI ep on Amazing Grease records, and the full-length on Matador. Also, saw them open for Television in Chicago a year or two back and they played a great, tight 35-40 minute set.

I find the acrimony thrown at Spiral's efforts by so-called Pavement fans odd. The elements that he contributed to Pave are evident in PSOI, just as Malk's supreme talents are right there in The Jicks. BUT, both bands are NOT Pavement and I wouldn't expect them to be.

I am eagerly looking forward to the next PSOI, and say, "Matador, bring it on!"

Seriously, fellas. I didn't realize post-pavement bashing was so cliched. For what it's worth, I like The Jicks. PSOI just doesn't do it for me. Of course I have gone back to albums I've previously dismissed only to discover I did so hastily. I'll be sure to give them a more careful listen.

Maybe I should dig out my sister's old RATT albums and listen to those, too. ; )

i'd buy another PSOI album. Spiral's album may seem lackluster compared to...let's say...Wowee Zowee for instance. I sure thought so at first, but its kinda grown on me. its horribly catchy. not as catchy as the songs on the Marble Valley album, but catchy. and real laid back.

I think the reason why people always bring up how much they dislike the Jicks and PSOI is the same as when you see an ex who you really fell hard for, and then it ended. You see them happy with a new life, and you're stuck in the past wishing that it never ended, or you wish things could've ended differently. Breaking up is hard to do...

I have to admit when "All This Sounds Gas" came out I gave it a few spins and sorta-kinda liked it, but the album just didn't grab me. Not the way the first Malkmus solo effort did. But after the "Slanted and Enchanted" reissue came out I went on a Pavement/Malk/PSOI binge and discovered---lo and behold!---that I began to really groove on "Gas." And the same thing happened when "Pig Lib" sank it's audio claws into my earholes.
I dug out "Gas" and gave it many more pleasurable spins.

(Incidentally, "Pig Lib" took many spins for it's pleasures to become apparent to me, too.)

I haven't really heard too much Jicks bashing, a little, but not even close to the amount that Spiral album has gotten. People actually seem to get hostile against Scott for that album. I personally think the songs on that album are just about on par w/ Malkmus' debut.

I really like All This Sounds Gas. When it first came out thought it was okay - but came back to it and it is a real grower. I's say its better than both of Malkmus' efforts.

Its odd why everyone wants to be down on Spiral, and as he said once " I've done nothing wrong!"
